The sorta orangey-looking one? Spoke to him this morning, the truck is JDM. :crybaby:

This one?: 1986 Toyota Landcruise

These are the pics that he sent me, LHD, must be CDN spec, no? Aren't all JDM ones RHD? I am tempted to go and check out this truck, looks pretty clean.

A guy near my work is selling a imported to aus (still has jpns stickers over it) RHD bj 74 has rust around rear wheel archs and is auto has elec windows and all the carpet stuff i can find out what year it is exactly if you are half keen on a mid wheel base

One minor detail, however I don't think you have to worry about the canadian BJ70, because I think they were all inline, however the 3B did come with a rotary, was the 3BII, my dads 89 BJ75 has one.

Cheers,
Deny

My BJ73 with the 3BII has the rotary pump. Completely rebuilt last December. Seems to have a bit more power than the inline.

Yes, thats it. Kelly talked to the guy, he said it was JDM. :meh::meh:

Apparently at least one buyer was about to pull the trigger and take it south when he realized it was JDM and had to back out.

:hhmm: If it's an 86 it doesn't meet the 25 year-old requirement. Maybe that's why he had to back out.

That's incorrect. Canadian-market cruisers are exempt from the 25 YO rule, meaning up to 87s can enter, including BJ70s and HJ60s.

i would be scared of bondo.
some of the 70s look too nice
i would personally rather see what the problems are...

If it was a JDM import then it would be right hand drive, would it not?

Let me clarify my statement- RHD vehicles are not Canadian-spec, as most of us know, and have to go qualify under the 25YO rule. If talking about that particular 70, it wont qualify if it's JDM. I think I misread the thread, sorry for any confusion.

I don't understand this. 25 years old, anything goes - I get that. Less than 25 years old, I've read that you can use a registered importer to bring them in... if the vehicle and year is on some list of approved importables.

So for BJ70's, what years can be brought in via an RI? ONLY 85-87? or others too?

BJ70s were started production in Nov 84, so the first models were 85s. Canada brought them in from 85-87. 1987 was the last year Canada brought diesel Cruisers in (mainstream, not mining rigs).

You can bring in any Canadian diesel cruiser, up to 87, since that was the last year they were brought in. You should use a RI for ones less than 25yo. If an RI tell you an 86/87 cannot be brought in, find yourself another RI. RIs can also assist on 25+yo, but it's not needed. Also, they go by the Month/Year, not just model year.

That was the one I was steering you too.Its not a JDM. I guess you were looking at a different one. I have seen this one in passing by.

Kelly called him twice to ask and both times he said - JDM. I just called again and left a message, I guess we'll see.

you did good.
the JDM 3b come with rotory pumps.
you can get the shorty with FF and lockers, ptos, elec everything and 4.11 gears.
Canadian trucks are rusted over abused bone basic (read, Japan had a lot of left over parts so they threw them together and sold them in Canada) POS but they can be found for cheap.

nope not on the 3B, yes on the 1HZ and the 1HD-T for example

  • What about gadgets? I've seen PTO winches on 71's, and I'm sure I could put one on a 70, but are they common? I know cable lockers are a rarity, were those only on Japanese trucks?
The canadian trucks didn't come with the fancy stuff unfortunatly:(

  • The CDN 70's I've been looking at are semi-float. Do full floaters exist? (I like elockers...)
semi floating, full floating wasn't an option for the 70s in canada.

how many KM's did the truck have on it when that pump needed rebuilding?

the inline pump is noisier, less power, less fuel efficient but more reliable. i have not had to have any inline pumps rebuilt...yet.
i like them both.

Slightly off-topic: Can you put a JDM rotary pump on a CDN BJ70 with inline pump?

For people on a budget like me, or who know they'll get tired of a RHD, and don't want a show truck, CDN BJ70's are worth considering. They're ideal for a bush truck. Some rust is okay, and can easily be fixed, but too much rust and you might as well not bother ever fixing it. I wouldn't buy a CDN BJ70 if you want a restoration project, as it will probably never be perfect. Unless you find that rare Canadian BJ70 that is in mint condition.

you will need the lines and the pump and all accessories attached.

if you do happen to find that perfect CDM 70 series then it will be HUGE money.

there is a bush pig 70 near by as well as another one close to that one. both are typical Canadian rust buckets but they are cheap...
