Its easy and cheaper to make your own snorkel:

I removed the wing and cut a hole for the 3" alu pipe to fit through at the right angle then plumbed it to the airbox using 1x 45 and 1x 90 degree silicone induction pipe angles and another short length of alu pipe inside the wing. I welded a couple of brackets tot he pipe and put rivnuts in the A-pillar but you could use pipe clips instead of welding. The top is from ebay.

I really like how you've cut the hole in the guard. At least I think I do from this angle :)

Got more snaps? Nice LJ! Must be rare in the UK.

does this front clip look familar?:hhmm:
it is a LJ78 which has the same sheet metal as your gasser.
that is a HD snorkel installed on it.;)

it works very well, it looks fine.:D

what i fine, is those that say something doesn't work, have not tried it.:meh:

after looking at your engine bay, you could reroute the air box to the other side and the battery to the far side. (think LJ setup)
this would allow for the snorkel to be installed with a short air feed line.
right now you would have to run the feed line clear across. of course you could also do a metal pipe from one side to the other painted black and mounted securely (think intercooler idea) that would make for short rubber lines at each end ...
the possibility is definately there.

sadly i have never seen a snorkel for that side of the 70 series ...

Looks like the battery and air filter box could be swapped over.I bet the holes are there

Aussie Bundera front sheet metal.

what part number is that snorkel?
it isn't a 70 series, is that a hilux LHD side version?

Aussie Bundera front sheet metal.

Are they not the same angle as 75 series? i did the same as Crushers,
mine was just a cheap 70 series, guessing 75 snorkel that I just had to move the pipe that comes out of the snorkel back toward the windscreen/windshield further to line up with my airbox. Oh and make a new A pillar bracket as the angle wasnt quite right for my pillar.
Although mines a Prado they have the same line through the top of the guard, Id say a HD cruiser snorkel would fit better to a Bundera guard than a Prado.
Dont have any close ups sorry, but this gives a bit of an idea.

here is the facts,
the firewall back the LD and the HD share the same sheet metal and windshield rake.
the front clip on the LD is SLIGHTLY narrower at the front, the actual lines for the upper section of the fender sheet metal is the same for both HD and LD.
the 1 piece fender of the LD lower section is much narrower and the front edge of the hood line is about 4" shorter than the HD front edge of the hood line (why the 1HZ won't fit into the engine bay.
the frame basic dimensions are the same for both the HD and LD.

if you set a snorkel onto the the LD the same as the HD would be, then you will see the lines match up perfectly.

it is the air box location and design that needs massaging to make the 70 HD snorkel work on the LD bodies...

Well , sorry to say, but it looks cheaper....

I don't know which snorkel will fit, as I never got around to fitting one when I had mine. I imagine unless you had an LJ/RJ-70 specific snorkel you'd have to tweak the angle cause the guard's different to a stock BJ/HJ/FJ-7*. I wouldn't use a stock Landcruiser one anyway. They have that ridiculous join at the elbow and there's better versions that stand up to the Aussie sun. Go the 3" stainless pipe bent up all nice-like by an exhaust shop and the Safari head.

Nice truck man!

Here is some pictures of my 1988 22r Bundera with HD OEM snorkel and custom piping to right side. I got rid of the original air filter setup and went to an older 4runner/cilica setup with air filter on top to save space for the second battery.

I made the snorkel from a 75 series fit to my Bundera. Looks like it was purpose made for the Bundera.

Hey is this snorkel model (SS79HFD)??

Hi all,

well time for an update. Had the roof painted, the painter stuffed it and actually painted the white, white again then had to re-do it. So it has so many coats of paint on it now its top notch.

Also purchased a roof rack, theres no much space in the back of these, expecially when the back seat is down, so will open up the space i need.

Searched high and low for a bullbar, used ones do not pop up that often. Ended up with a 75 series ARB winch capable bullbar. Had to grind a bit of the chassis rail, and widen a mounting point on the bar but it fit up really well.

Brought this today, as tigerz11 have a sale on. Should be way more than i need to pull Kev out of the poo if needed. Hopfully as its the larger of the winches it will only need to work well within its capability. Will chuck it on over christmas. Its a 12000 pound winch with dyneema rope!

Next is suspension, im thinking 2 1/5 inch toughdog suspension lift. getting prices now.

Also wheels and tyres, at the moment im thinking -44 offset rims with Maxxis 33x12.5 15. However that is a massive offset, only reason is i dont want any scrubbing plus at this stage dont want to do a body lift.

Well will keep this updated as more happenes, still need to do that bluddy service but it hasnt missed a beat haha

cheers

Dobinson spring makes a kick ass suspension for the LJ71 ...
the only suspension i recommend for the LD cruisers.

Hi guys, time for another update finally.

got round to giving it a good service, used semi-sythetic oil all round, everything is nice and smooth now its amazing how some decent oil can inprove the car.

also chucked in some new plugs and leads, new air filter, oil filter and fuel filter. greased up the drive shaft nipples but need to buy some 15mm nipples for the front steering knuckles. on the note how much grease do you guys put in? i dont want to blow out the gaskets.

installed power steering as well. now has an 80 series steering box with the rest of the power steering kit being from a hilux 22r motor. like a totally different car now is fantastic and will help when i get the bigger wheels and tyres on.

Also one last question, for all those out there with these cars (XX70 of some sort) i plan on putting on 15 x 10 wheels with 33 x 12.5 inch tyres. will i need to run -33 or -44 offset to have good clearance and decent clearance at full flex. note this will be after a suspension lift.

thanks everyone

my suggestion would be 34X9 on stock rims.
track better
less power loss
better performance all around
tires stay inside the body, easier to keep clean and less attractive to the cops.
