Fellow knights,

With a heavy heart and after much deliberation I have decided to pass my noble steed to a more worthy rider.

Some of you know that I purchased my '76 FJ55 almost two years ago from Casey Campbell, who had purchased it not too long before that from Todd Kaderabek. In the 20 months or so that I've owned the truck, I've taken her wheeling about 5 times. Wheeling just isn't a big part of my life any more. I own three other Land Cruisers, which fulfill the daily driver, expedition/camping/fishing, and grunt firewood hauler roles, so the Pig sits in waiting as the dedicated "just for fun" trail rig. I love the truck but I'm not doing it justice and out of respect for the beast I think I should pass it on. It doesn't deserve to sit rusting in my yard.

Some technical details:

1976 FJ55

~170K miles (168,7xx on odo)
17K on rebuilt 2F (Toyota dealer, have receipts) RUNS LIKE A TOP!
6K on rebuilt transmission, rebuilt transfer case (with 2Low added), new clutch and new brakes.
Custom "low SOA" by Lance Williams with custom springs and shaved perches.
Custom front and rear bumpers by Lance Willliams.
Custom sliders welded in place of the rockers by Lance Williams
Anti-wrap bar
Minitruck power steering

Brand new OEM water pump, August '06

RS9000 shocks
Rear Powertrax No Slip automatic locker
4 35x12.5x15 MTR's with at least 75% tread
1 SSR spare
5 10"x15" (2.5" backspace) Rock Crawler wheels

Warn 8274-50
AM/FM/Cassette with 4 speakers
CB
No emissions

about 300 miles on:
- FJ60 birfs and knuckles
- 4Runner brake calipers
- Marlin Hi Steer with FJ80 TRE's and custom drag link and tie rod

The bad:

Body:

- Holes in driver's floor, DS rear passenger door jamb, couple other places. Wheel well edges are pretty ragged. Rear quarters have a lot of bondo. Bits of surface rust all around. Holes in roof plugged with some kind of gooey caulk stuff. This is a trail rig body, lots of crooked panels, etc.
- Front bench seat completely worn out. I've purchased an Iron Pig Off Road front seat bracket and bucket seats and a Tuffy center console. These go with the truck if you want them. If not, I'll sell them separately..

Mechanical:
- the front diff is making a bad noise when decelerating in 4WD. It started right after the front axle rebuild, and I think it didn't make noise before that only because one of the hubs was missing a part so I was really in three wheel drive... I have no idea what is wrong but this is pretty much the only thing that worries me about the truck. UPDATE: AS OF MID AUGUST THE FRONT DIFF IS NO LONGER MAKING BAD NOISES AND AS FAR AS I CAN TELL IS WORKING FINE. I HAVE NOT OPENED IT TO INSPECT IT.

I'm not lookiog to make money, just hoping to pass the Pig on to a worthy knight. I'm asking $5000, which is pretty firm, and I'm losing money at that price. We can work out transportation. The truck is in Marquette, Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula, near Lake Superior...

here's a bump for what I wish my pigs were.

Too bad I have a 60 waiting for TLC in the backyard!!

Hey when are we gonna wheel? I think I'd have the shortest drive to get it.
Wanna trade for a semi-running 60?......

too much rust or I would think about another piggy...since FJBen killed Pigpen ;)

No trades please. Trying to keep the Cruiser stable down to three or four!

Come and get it Tommy! Fly up and drive her home!

Actually thinking seriously of keeping her. If I don't find a really good home that's what I'll do. eBay is NOT in this Cruiser's future. :bounce:

glad to hear you're thinking of keeping it.

look at it from the viewpoint of replacement / getting it home / invested time and money.

Almost not worth letting it go.

I'd try to move it to one of my buddies back home, but most of them are flat ass broke.....

you really need to keep...... dare I say........a beater(its not, but compared to the others it is) Cruiser.

I kinda sorta wouldn't mind havin that Pig........but I am on the same diet plan as Yooper.......and we have a baby on the way......I mean a FJ Cruiser ;)

yeah, leaning towards keeping it right now. I do have a real beater Cruiser, though, the '73 FJ40. About half the floor is gone, springs are downright scary, etc. etc.

bump...

Today I fixed the rear window, with a hammer and a grease gun! It just needed some lube and some encouragement and now it's flying up and down at scary beheading speed again.

Gave her a good wash too, removing about 10 pounds of pine needles and sticks from her nooks and crannies.

What a great truck. I spend about 15 minutes just sitting and staring at her after she was clean...

What do you think the decel noise from front diff might be? I have a similar prob...and btw I recognize this truck!

two questions: Is it still for sale and does it have a backseat? I want a Hunting/Fishing mobile for me and the kids or the hunting budies so the back seat is a must.

BTW it looks great

Is there any reason to believe that it wouldn't make the drive down to Ann Arbor? Judging by your first post it wouldn't have much problem, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks

No, no reason. It will be loud and warm and take a long time but it will get you anywhere...

Price is firm...

BTW, the front diff isn't making noises any more. All I did was take a kinda long drive, maybe two hours, 70 miles, in two wheel drive but with the hubs engaged. Now I can't make the bad noise happen any more. 4WD seems to work fine - I can spin either front tire if I punch it on gravel. The diff behaves normally at rest - jack the front of the truck up and spin one tire and the other spins backwards, etc. So either it's fixed or something broke and for now isn't causing a problem.

Still for sale, just not aggressively. I'm pretty happy to keep it. $5K is my emotional break even point. I'd rather keep it than get less. It MUST go to a good home.

It's out at my camp now, where it will sit for the winter. :frown:
