Maybe look at modding a VW Westfalia top to the cruiser....you can usually find non runners cheap...

Plus, you'd have some additional interior camper parts!

I am in the process of making an HJ45 Troopy converted to a NanoCamper. It needs to be simple but suitable for camping in.

You gonna add a tag axle or move the rear axle at all? That thing is gonna be awful arse heavy once its all set up for expedition.

Good luck with the search for a good fabricator.

Check out www.expeditionportal.com for some good info for your buildup.
 
my advice... keep the roof height low or you'll hate yourself when trying to ship it anywhere. By the sound of things you're planning on doing a lot of that. Keep it compact and you can ship it RORO cheap. Also fuel consumption...
