not actually building this for my cruiser...
Bumper is actully for my blazer
but wanted to know what size shackles everyone is running for recovery points? I have been searching...
not come up with much.
I have a 5/8" and a 3/4" shackle here to help with fabbing things up...
plans for each shackle mount are 2 pieces of 1/4 plate about 3/4" apart, and then to cap off the exposed space between with a strip of 3/16" steel. both brackets will pass through the bumper's face and get welded to the bumper mount brackets, and welded to the front and backside of the bumper's face...

The 5/8 shackle has a 3/4" pin and fits a little better with my bumper's layout... The 3/4" is bigger...

I would go WAY heavier on the mounts, like 3/4"-1" solid stock tied to the frame. Recovery is the key word and i would not trust an fj40 let alone a Blazer with 1/4", capped or not. 3/4" pin is what i run. My .02 .

If I go with the 3/4 inch shackle, one of the brackets going through the bumper will be 3/8" and the other will be 1/4inch... both will be tied to frame.

I'll have to post a pic when I get things rolling, but mainly wanted to know what size rings everybody is using...

Sweet nevermind... bow shackles are available in alloy steel...

what's a normal hot dipped galvanized 3/4" rated at? 4.75ton WLL?

I can get 5/8" shackles with at least a 5ton WLL - safety factor of 5...
and they are affordable it seems...

iv built a few bumpers now....some for me nd for others...i do my recovery points out of 1" plate cause well....it dont cost that much more than 3/4 and i would rather be safe than sorry and i run 3/4 shackels i believe....been away from my rigs for too long...
