Yeah, I calculate the 04, with NEW addons, is probably closer to 22 or 23 thousand. Base truck price the 04 will be about 1100 more just for the year newer and about 1000 more for the lower mileage. Plus the 03 wants full value for the addons as if they were brand new. 03 in my opinion is about 7500 too high. 04 is probably 5000 too high.

What could have gone wrong with the steering rack on the 04 I wonder?

The only difference in a 2003 vs. 04-05 is the lack of Bluetooth and back up camera iirc. So depending on what that's worth to you...

Window tint color changes from 03-04 (brown to green) if that matters to you. I think... Don't they have a gen 3 nav in the 03 as well? 04-05 for the win! But I'm a little bias.

So I looked at a 98 today. The seats were nicer than the others I've looked at but the owner had a dog and hair was all over the roof liner.

Has some scratches, smudges on plastic bumpers, prolly needs a new muffler, definitely needs new tires and had several rust spots above the front window.

The owner was getting ready to take it in for wheel bearing, CV axle and a tie rod end. All fluids looked clean; even brake fluid. was some wetness on the tranny pan or maybe the transfer case pan: It is the black, rectangular, skinny pan underneath. Wasn't dripping but something is probably seeping there. Could use some shocks.

My first question is: How much do you think it would cost to have someone fix the rust around the front window?

Second question: Does anyone have a carfax membership and could run the carfax for it? They said the timing belt and waterpump would show on the carfax. I could not find a sticker for those.

Edit: Also, seemed like rusty water was coming out of the rear wheel cap onto the rim. Just mud or would indicate something?

Well, I got a truck finally. 2005 Dodge Durango Limited with the 5.7 Hemi. It caught my eye one night when I was browsing through Craigslist. Did the KBB.com on it and found they were selling it at private party prices. Went, got them down to 10500 with 90K miles.

I could help but think about all the LX470's I saw online and the trucks I went to look at. All of them were dirty, seats worn out, paint chipped, stains on carpet, one had dog hair all over; they weren't in the greatest shape is what I'm getting at and the Durango is in pristine condition. Well, none of them had pristine miles.

I have no doubt that a toyota is a longer life truck but to get a 2005 100 Series, in decent shape in and out, just stock, with 90K miles would cost me at least twice as much.

Not trying to bash at all; I owned an 80 and quite frankly I'd take it back (assuming engine was worked on).

I just don't have the funds for what I'm looking for if I go Toyota. Especially if it has aftermarket stuff on it.

Thanks for all the help!

Yep, 2 1/2 weeks isn't enough time to find a good cruiser, it takes some time.

Couldn't agree with this statement more. I budgeted 6 months to find the right cruiser and it paid off. If you're happy with a Durango, then maybe you didn't want a cruiser that bad after all. If you settled on the Durango, you'll probably be back here on the board in the next couple of months looking for a 100 again!

I spent most of the summer looking, and have to admit it took A LOT of time! On one hand it would be nice if there were more of these around, on the other there's a certain satisfaction to finding and buying the right one that makes it worth the hunt. But I can easily see how you might have gotten frustrated.

Good luck with the Durango. I'm sure it'll work out for you for at least 20 or 30k miles ;)

How do you go from looking for a Toyota LC to settling on a Dodge Durango? You might as well have bought a brand new Chevy Colorado PU.
