That is a pretty good looking tub! Apparently you also have the only PO ever who didn’t own a drill and liked to use it creating mounting locations for doodads.

How far down the rabbit hole are you wanting to go? Your interior looks really clean. I wouldn't bother pulling it all apart. Get it cleaned up and driving and just enjoy it.

Well because the engine is out, and I can see some surface rust starting on the frame I want to get it off before it becomes any worse. And, while I’ve got so much off I want to make sure everything is in good order.

I'd look at @wngrog 's patina thread and grab some of his tricks to go clean up the frame and interior. A full frame-off is really time intensive and will cost a lot once you end up doing it. If you are wanting to do that, go ahead, but figure out how far you want to go before it ends up being too late.

I agree. There are countless 40s that are torn apart with good intentions, never to be reassembled (or sold decades later to be built by someone else). It’s 5x more costly than you’d imagine and takes serious time management skills.

Drive it and enjoy now.

Judging by the wear on the clutch pedal pad, the shape of the exhaust compared to the rest of the truck, and the lack of an engine and trans, I would put money that she has 180k on her. 95% of the time, vehicles of the vintage with 6 digit odometers have rolled over at least once. Still a very solid rig. I would probably pause all the cosmetic stuff you're doing and get it running and driving. What you are doing will cost you huge in time and money and provide you with no driving pleasure. Trust me, when your rolling down the trail, you will be having so much fun you wont care what color it is.
