BS throttle cable linkage. Suggestions?

1972 FJ40. Carburetor may not be original. I don't know enough about these things to be able to tell. The throttle cable linkage at the carburetor is a ball and socket type of affair that is absolutely terrible and won't stay connected. Like there's supposed to be some manner of clip that is missing. Any suggestions for how to connect or upgrade to a different connection would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Usually there is a locking piece that looks like this. I have seen similar retainers on rods for tail gate releases

Small zip ties, place in X fashion can work.

Here is a photo. I have it on for now with a little Beverly Hillbillies craftsmanship and some zip ties, but I'd like to do it properly so it stays forever more.

Definitely not stock. Stock has a horizontal rod that goes towards the left fender, where it may or may not transition to more linkage. Yours looks like they tried to make the ball work with a cable that pulls towards the valve cover. There was an earlier bellcrank (the rotating piece that links the throttle shaft to the cable/link) that hooked directly to a cable without the intermediate ball and socket, but it is a hard piece to find.
