I would ask each and everyone of you to take a stand for what is right. no matter what you drive, no matter where you live, no matter who you are the battle lines are drawn.

http://www.canada.com/edmontonjourn...=67a6afb8-565b-406a-a9c6-5dd326a11a7f&k=25327

we wanted to work with TC and ICBC to make sure our vehicles complied with the law, to operate the RHD and ANY imported unit with common sense. we were willing to sit down with Brian to work out a plan of action that would satisfy both sides of the fight. THAT was shot down with the front page news article. we will still meet with them on Tues to hear their side BUT it will be with a pound of salt his words will be weighed.

Brothers, we will be holding meetings in Vancouver, Edmonton and Ottawa and we invite ALL of you to attend. we have a battle plan and we are going to fight this.

we will be staging protests, car shows at TC offices through out Canada, at ICBC head office, we will be attending CCMTA to have our voice heard and we will be launching a class action suit against these organizations AND WE WILL BE GOING AFTER THE ORIGINATOR that we suspect is behind this whole scandal. we have already started the fact finding that leads to this individual. with in a couple weeks we should have all the facts in order to name names.

IT IS UP TO YOU Brothers to take your stand...
it is really simple actually...either you are with us or you are against us. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.

I want you to think of something. do you like your RHD you are driving? if so how are you going to feel if it got into an accident and ICBC decided NOT to repair it and the door is closed to replacement from Japan...how are you going to feel? you like your cool ass Delica? Your Land Cruiser? Your skyline? or your mini truck or van? go look out your window and picture it gone..go ahead...now picture it replaced with a NA made POS with high mileage and rust...are you happy with that vision? NO? THAT IS A FACT OF LIFE if these liars are not taken to task. we can not do it alone, we can not accomplish the fight with out YOU. WE NEED YOU TO TAKE A STAND!.

cheers Brothers, the fight is not over, it has just begun.

<if our fact finding proves true ICBC and TC will be shaken to their very roots.>

Wayne, "big brother" is always right (even when he is wrong like in this case)! I truly hope for the best in this whole scenario as my kid may be wanting to bring an '88 RJ70LV up from Guatemala in a couple of years and I'd replace my '82 BJ60 with a new 'Cruiser from down here that's equipped how I want it NOT how Toyota Canada or USA tells me I want it when it dies.

Do let us know who, both corporately and personally are the movers and shakers making these decisions.

I find it rather knee-jerk that ALL imports will go to 25 years EVEN THOUGH one might find some decent vehicles in LHD countries.

Just back from the weekend working on the Island and read the article. I don't see much difference between this and the stuff that came out this summer while I was in Mexico. Looks to me nothing more than a reporter who needed a quick story and never really understood what investigative journalism is all about. Otherwise he would have gone to a few of the main players like IVOAC and CAVI. He is just rehashing "old news" with a few quotes from an suposed RHD owner.

I would not get too worked up about it until after the meeting with ICBC this week. Its not that I think the fight is won. I think we still need to educate those who would be educated and let or power be known to the law makers. However, I do think that the genie is out of the bottle and it will be hard (not impossible) for the people behind trying to stop imports to put the cap back on. This poorly researched article also offers an opportunity for someone in Alberta to GENTLY educate the journalist who wrote the article. Maybe he can be shown the light?:D

BTW, was pulled over at a road block tonight coming off the Ferry. Once again, not one word from the police except "Have you had anything to drink tonight?" Didn't even get the customery "Hey, your on the wrong side!" Let's face it Japanese RHDs are here to stay. :) There was at least five of them on the 9:25 PM sailing - maybe even more that I didn't see.

again, this is purely protectionism bull**** at its finest!
this is spearheaded by jimmy pattison and his toyota dealers as far as ive been told by some way up there in ICBC. this is only brought on becuase for years we have had to settle with the NA s***boxes out there while the rest of the world gets the good stuff. class action suit sounds good about now!

If you have some evidence of this I'd like to know (you can PM me link's if you like). I tend to get my parts from JP in Surrey when I am home because the parts guys there have some knowledge of 'Cruisers and they give me a discount (all my trucks that have been in Canada are Canadian or US market trucks with Canadian 3B engines, the FJ45LV is Central American market with a non-CDM drivetrain and has not been out of Guatemala City since I've had it). Now if they are going to screw up the access to 'Cruisers from abroad because Toyota USA doesn't want to bring them in I will find an alternate parts source. I'm not interested in patronizing a business that's going to cause me to be unable to replace my currect vehicle with another diesel when it finally dies.

Charles, I have yet to see any hard proof but it is a likely possibility. In other words, any accusation like this would never stand up in court. However, I know that people are digging for the root and sending in Freedom of Information Requests to ICBC and MOT. I can just hear those paper shreaders now. I doubt we will find the cause, unless someone is sloppy; but I am sure we will stop who ever is behind it. :)

I've known the folks at JP in Surrey for probably 10-15 years and they have been talking alot when I was there last year about all the "wonderful" stuff Toyota Canada has like the Tundra and FJCruiser, vehicles that frankly DON'T compete with what I have and are NOT what I'd be interested in owning so there may be some truth in all this. They also are ones that have told me flat out, "We will NOT supply parts for non-USA/Canada market trucks."

I'll continue to find sources for my parts here in Central America and other places and see what happens. The trouble is that in the Vancouver area they seem to be the most knowledgeable parts guys for 'Cruisers. The dealer in Cranbrook, Alpine Toyota, was useless. Each time I ordered parts from them it was wrong and I had to show them in their EPC exactly what I wanted so they could re-order! One time I had to bring my registration because they didn't believe I had a CDM truck and they didn't want to order anything. At least here in Guatemala I can go into the dealer with my SOR catalog and point to what I want. They'll order parts for ANYTHING Toyota from ANY market if it is still current.
