In the interest of not hijacking the hell out of redcheetah's thread anymore I started this one.

We will be making a day trip run up Bronco Peak on Saturday September 13th. Reid will be leading it since he has been there before. I will leave it up to Reid to pick the meet time and location. The trail is a 3+ or 4 at the top as I am told so it would be a good idea to have armor.

Meeting is 8:30 at Carl's Jr. in Alpine. There is a fuel station there so everyone can top off before heading out. Please plan on arriving with enough time to fuel up and be ready to go at 8:30.

I always like to head out EARLY, however, I know we have some making longer drives to get there.

What time sounds reasonable? I'd to get started no later than 9a.

how long is the trail?

Bronco Peak is actually one of many trails in the area known as Corral Canyon. I believe Bronco Peak trail is about a mile up to the peak. You can go much farther. Sidewinder is also about a mile, but full of obstacles. Supposedly, the other trails are also now open (closed due to the fire in '06).

You are in brother.

Unless redcheetah wants in, since it was his original thread that got this run going, I think that is it in the interest of keeping us moving on the trail.

I agree with early. How about 8:30 meet at the Carls so it is not ridiculous early for those of us driving from up north.

Mo, do you have pics of the rear bumper with tire carrier in the works for the 80 at this shop? Do you have a fuel cans carrier that go with the bumper making it a dual swingout?
Specs and price? I would like to have a new rear bumper the begining of next year. Thanks.

Hijack off.

Edit - ? if dual carrier bumper.

I might know what "this" shop has in the works. ;)

I would like to add that anybody that does not have armor should not attempt Bronco unless they like body damage. I ran it last year in my Taco and removed most of the paint from my sliders and skids. That means it is a very good trail if you run it all the way thru.

Did you run the BP bypass (up from the campground)? I haven't done that part, but it sure looks fun.

Sorry Mark . . . :frown:

Watching is fun, driving is better . . . :p

Don't forget your cameras as there will be plenty of photo opportunities. Unlike my buddy in AK that crossed a river in his 80 recently that was believed to be uncrossable. He was the talk of the town and has no pics of the event:rolleyes:. Here are a couple teasers:

I know about armor, and I'm good there. but how about lockers and or a winch?

My general belief is that if you're part of a multi rig run, there is almost no situation in which you would need a winch.

I don't believe that you would need lockers for for Bronco peak up to the top, although I think I remember Reid using his once. But if you want to go over the top and down the backside, I think they would be essential. Once at the top everyone can decide whether they want to proceed or turn around and meet up elsewhere.

Sidewinder is a little tougher although I think you could do it without lockers IIRC (if you don't mind some wheel spin:D). We all used our lockers at one point or another on Sidewinder and the FJC had a tough time on that rock in my bottom pic.

Edit: It doesn't look like much in the pic but this is the point of no turning back on Bronco Peak:

Yes, we ran the bypass since the rest was closed from the fire. Oh, it was fun! :hillbilly:
