The "control assy, back" is an absolute bargain on Amayama right now at $120. There are two listed.

69790-60020 Control Assy, Back Door Lock [01.1992 - 01.1998] FJ80,FZJ80
69790-60060 Control Assy, Back Door Lock [01.1992 - 01.1998] FJ80,FZJ80 W(REAR 3RD SEAT)

69790-60020 looks like this:

IIRC I have the factory one that worked when I removed it...it's yours if you pay the ride

My rear hatch on the 96 LX doesn’t open from the outside (94 LC is good), but does open from the inside. Would this be the solution?

You probably have a rod that isn't attached any more to the latch. The part above is the actuater for the lock.

I remember this happened on my parents 1991, and I think we just reattached that arm with some wire and epoxy or something. I’ll probably try that.

The rear hatch lock arm in my 80 is broken and split similar the one in post #17 of this thread Rear Hatch Lock Issues/Actuator Fix - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/rear-hatch-lock-issues-actuator-fix.1060081/. I tried an epoxy to fix it which failed. Could this part be 3D printed and/or is anyone doing so? I checked vendors that offer items such as this without finding anything. @Outsane is this a part you could reproduce?
Did you ever find a place to 3D print the arm?
