Broken diff or drive shaft or something else? (1 Viewer)

Take it apart and assess damage and finish diagnosis before you worry about ordering any parts.
Right now you have a bunch of internet clowns guessing at the issue. There's still a few possibilities

The knocking noise at the start of the video is not normal either. You should figure that out too.
Did it start at the same time?

Ah, that sound has a history on IH8MUD, and it's mentioned in several places. Here's a link to one of them. I’ve given up on it for now since it’s not the valves, and in the meantime, I also replaced the seals under the valves. The last thing I thought of but haven’t checked yet is the area around the bell housing, which another Mudder mentioned in his post. His is a diesel, but the sound was identical and came from the same place around the bell housing, and it sounded just like mine. That sound has been present for seven years and remains a mystery for now.

Hello all, I owe you the conclusion, so here it is. In the first four pictures, I tried to briefly highlight the damages, and it's clear that the entire differential needs to be replaced. I haven't had any luck finding another one until today, when hope arose from a neighboring country where there are two available (picture 5 and in the next post, picture 6). One is an open differential, and the other has a locker but without the locker motor, so I decided to go with the open one, as it's easy to add an ARB or something else later. One is 800 euros, and the other is 1000 euros. I hope the axles will fit, and visually, they appear the same.

Putting a used third member in is very risky the ones you present is dirty at best and well used.
These things have to transfer at lot torque and need to be well cared for.
Do you have a better picture of the one you intend to use?

I just went inside to my computer Post 23 picture # 5 IMO that differential is shot, I can see severe ware marks on the ring gear and possibly some chipped teeth.
A close up picture would help.

As Broski and sbman have stated, the differential in photo #5 should be a hard pass...there are definitely several chipped / broken ring gear teeth. You would probably be better off getting a new set of gears and an install kit and having someone redo the gears in your existing differential.

Could you have one shipped in from another market?

Here is everything I have. Of course, I would check before making the payment, but now that you mention it, I see that the profile picture of the person selling it shows him in a car with racing numbers on it, so it's probably been used quite heavily... The alternatives are almost nonexistent. Customs, taxes, and shipping double the original price, so if something is $5k, it becomes $10k, etc. I’ll see, I was really optimistic, but with your warnings, I’ll definitely need to inspect everything thoroughly. I was thinking of asking him to send it to me, but now, maybe it’s wiser to go myself and to bring a mechanic with me as well.

The E-locker diffs are different.
So your only choice is the open diff.
As you are very limited you could try to run it but my guess is it’s going to be very noisy and will be like the one that you have in short order.
It looks like it lived a very hard life.

You can’t order parts and rebuild the one you have ?

That was my plan before this option came up, but when I took it apart, I was hoping it would only be the ring and pinion and the bearings, but there’s a lot more minor damage, and I’ll need quite a bit more parts.
Something like all of these.

For $5 to $10k, if you can swing the visa paperwork, might be better to get a ticket to the USA or other place with abundant used parts resources and fly there to hand carry a good used one home.

I'm just looking at your pictures, so I can't have as accurate an assesment of it as you can. But... I see a damaged ring and pinion set, some snapped off bolts, and a bearing that is damaged.

These are all replacement items. These are all normal and routine replacement/repair components.. Why are you thinking that the diff has to be replaced rather than repaired.

The cost of this job is the only reason. But I just sent Toyota a list of differential parts that I would need to replace, and I'm waiting for a price check. If the price is even remotely acceptable, I'll go with that option. Marlin Crawler is also an option for me, but then I would go for both differentials and do 4.88 at the same time... But that’s also the longest option because it would mean waiting for one of my acquaintances to ship a container and add my parts along the way. There are people here who could machine the metal on the differential, and that might be the cheapest and fastest option, but I’m not sure if it would be the best quality.

All of the parts that *I* see that need replacement are also available from non-Toyota sources. In the US, this is much less expensive. Not sure how shipping, taxes, and such would affect that for you though.

Can you name me some reliable non -Toyota sources and I'll check the options and the total cost and have that on the table as well,
Thanks all, this community never stops to amaze me, God bless you all!

It seems that the bearing on the differential failed, causing slack or "free play" (picture 2 at #23), which then broke the teeths and everything else. Unfortunately, I didn't realize the issue with the differential in time.
