Excellent point....I'll put together my receipts / paperwork in prep for that conversation with them.

Thanks.

Any other areas on the 60 I should inspect for collateral damage from a front impact?

Motor mounts, accessories, etc?

Thanks.

Any mounts that could have been damaged in sudden stop... Seat too ... I Toldem sweet and showed them the paper work and the tone changed...

Hi Guys -

Thanks for all the support and feedback.

Well, the process of getting myself and the 60 repaired has begun. I can't really get into details for a number of potential reasons, but I'm going to document this process so that other "vintage LC" car owners may learn from this experience.

It appears that the insurance company has begun the "business" side of the settlement process. They've already started using the "it maybe totaled" language in the very first conversation without even seeing the 60 yet.

In order to forecast what I may experience and help future LC owners, I'd love to hear from anyone that has had to go through this process after being involved in an accident and the any suggestions on how to reach a reasonable settlement to get my 60 back to pre-accident condition. Any pros/cons of the process would also be helpful.

Thanks!

I just went thru this process 3 months ago myself. You can hit me here or offline if you would like. If you look in the NC section here on Mud you will see how bad mine was. In the NC section it is called " The 11 good years i had before this happened ".

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm glad everything worked out for you and your new 60.

Sorry to hear of the accident. Hope all goes well.

Really like the way your 60 is set-up. Also the 40 rims and caps are classic.

Alan

Thanks Alan.

The rims are Toyota OEM steelies/caps widen by Stockton wheel to 15x8. I'm really glad they didn't get damaged in the crash.

Once all is said and done, I'm really happy with the strength and protection the ARB bumper gave to the front of the 60. I suspect the damage would have been worse without it.

That is THE very reason to have an ARB on the truck!!

I haven't gone through this, but when I got insurance, I asked about this same scenario. He told me to just keep receipts to show the value of all that has gone into the truck.

Terrible, just terrible. Glad to hear you are ok. Look forward to wheeling with you & exrsa1 sometime.

Sounds like a goodtime! Hope you made it home OK.

It was great meeting you while you were in KC.

Take care

I'm convinced

that ARB bumpers are well built to handle this kind of punishment, good to hear that no one is hurt and minor damage to your rig.let us know if they find anything else beside the ARB bumper.

Thanks John-

Currently everything is going well. I've received a number of calls from both my insurance company and his insurance company and everyone seems to be working towards a solution.

The Claims Adjuster has not scheduled a time to inspect my 60, but once I have his/her feedback on what they're willing to repair I'll update everyone.

Claims Adjuster called today and I have a meeting on Friday with him to inspect the 60.

Since I don't want to drive it any more then I need to he's coming to my house.

Any does/don't s ?

Thanks.

I have the morning off and pulled all my restoration receipts in anticipation of the meeting tomorrow and tallied them up.....holy crap! I think it would be cheaper for the insurance company to buy me a G6 jet instead....LOL...now I know why you should never tally up you receipts...it'll put your rig in a different perspective..ignorance is bliss when it comes to what we spend on these things.

Thanks for all the support.

Agreed. Having recently spent a boatload of cash "restoring" mine (and still not entirely done, I know how to many it seems insane to spend what we have on these old trucks. As to yours, it has been one of the ones I've modeled mine after. I truly hope it works out and would like to hear your suggestions, as I know this will happen to others (including, but hopefully not, me).

Met with the Adjuster today and provided him with before, during and after resto. pictures. A comprehensive list of all expenses and a detailed list of "known" damages from the crash. He was receptive to my points regarding the time, effort and cost associated with restoring an FJ60. So, after about 2 1/2 hours he advised that he normally provided a cash (check) settlement on the spot for repairs, but he wasn't able to it in this case due to the resto. condition of my 60. He advised that he would need to do some additional research on the value of a 60 like mine and get with me the following week with a settlement offer.

Now, this maybe the standard operating procedure for an Adjuster, but all and all I was pleased with his professional/candid position regarding the damages.I'll be very interested in seeing what he offers next week.

Thanks for all your suggestion and help on this process.

To be continued...

He just has to crunch the numbers.....he's used to knowing OEM parts and looking those up. Since a bunch of your stuff is aftermarket he has some other work to do. IIRC, an ARB is actually cheaper to replace than the stock bumper from a dealer. Seems like you've done enough to discourage any thoughts of totaling it. But they also know that you expect them to be thorough about it.
