He just has to crunch the numbers.....he's used to knowing OEM parts and looking those up. Since a bunch of your stuff is aftermarket he has some other work to do. IIRC, an ARB is actually cheaper to replace than the stock bumper from a dealer. Seems like you've done enough to discourage any thoughts of totaling it. But they also know that you expect it to be thorough about it.

Your right. I forgot to mention that he specifically stated, several times, that it's not totaled and he'll make sure that it's put back the way it was.

Thanks!

I can't emphasize enough, that if you have a unique or restored vehicle, that it is really worth having an accredited appraiser give you an officially written appraisal for your vehicle in the event that you have to meet with a claims adjuster.

Lately I have had to assist several claims adjusters determine the value of unique Land Cruisers.

If it's unique, rare, or restored... get an appraisal!

I had a similar incident, guy ran a red light while I was starting a left turn. They are replacing my bumper and kids car seat. It did bend the ARB slightly and there was a small paint chip removed on the fender but the bumper definitely limited the damage. His left on a flatbed, drivers side doors completely inoperable it was his second accident in two weeks.

the moral of the story is....ARB wins!!!!

glad everyone is ok, i'm going to follow this thread to make sure my full coverage insurance on my 60 is really worth the $$$

Sloan...Ouch...glad your ok.

Frankly, given what I've seen of other vehicles (google images) involved in accidents with ARB bumpers, I can't image not having one (or other type of heavy bumper) on my 60. It's amazing how strong the ARB's are even when hit on the ends. I hate to think what my 60 would have looked like without it...

Good point -

Any suggestions on how to go about locating one? What questions should I ask them to make sure they are qualified. What is the average cost of an appraisal?

Thanks

Update-

Per the Adjuster, I removed the Hella lights, jack and pulled the ARB before I take it to the frame shop. I was pleased that the ARB came off the frame without any problems. No twisted parts or bent bolts, so I hope that's precursor to the rest of the repairs. The top of the ARB is definitley tweaked.

I m scared mine will finaly get damaged enough to need to be replaced ... I love the look of my old style bar and can't give up my side bars... 2 cars 1 full sized van and a dumpster ( don't ask) later it's still rockin ;)

I agree....I would love to find and old-school ARB in decent shape.
Got ta watch those frisky dumpsters....

Thanks!

Update-

Heard from the Adjuster this afternoon and he made his offer. It did cover the ARB bumper replacement, Hi-lift replacement, paint, frame check/repair (if needed) and minor cosmetic repairs but didn't cover the cracked windshield.

Like most MUD members, I know ever square inch of my 60 and prior to the crash the WS did not have any cracks. Well, due to the crash the lower portion of the W/S received a starburst crack. The Adj. advised that in his 15 years of Adj. work he's never seen a crack like that from a crash and chalks it up to a road chip...so he won't repair/replace the W/S. At this point I'm not willing to accept the offer until I determine what my options are.

Any suggestions? A windshield replacement is approx. $260 -$300, depending on which rubber trim they use.

I would go by the best place in town and get them to do an estimate and see where it stands compared to the adjuster.

Take all your receipts and show them the windshield also.

Thats where you tell him in your profession you have seen it happen. I would have the shop you plan on getting it fixed at give you a fat quote to cover the windshield. Is this your insurance or his?

Thanks Bomar.

I'll follow your advice. I currently have over 103 individual receipts from the new H55 transmission to the ARB lockers to the Toyota OEM nuts used on the OEM exhaust hangers at the rear of the exhaust pipe....grrrrrr....It's annoying that just a nano second before the crash my 60 was perfect, now after the crash the Adjuster is nitpicking everything as if it was a hoopdee...needless to say, I'm not pleased with the insurance companies position on this and it appears this is going to turn into a battle.

...Rant over...

Thanks for listening...

Sorry to hear about your accident!! but at least the 60 came out of it in pretty darn good shape all things considered.

in regards to the claims adjusters offer I would contact your insurance company's claims office and have them give you a second opinion. Their job is to look out for you in a situation like this. (can't take credit for the advice it came from the lil lady who use to be in insurance)

Thanks Jeremy.

I'll reach out to them in the morning.

Hey Matt-

Thanks...I'll talk to the body shop about it.

And your right, it's been amazing to see what some walk away from and others don't.

It's his insurance company and they've accepted fault.

Take care.

Oh then if its his insurance I would take it to multiple high dollar places and give them the estimates and tell them you want a check for it. Dont let them try and get by cheap. Also tell them you want money for compensation for having to take time off of work and mental stress this has put on you. You might have to see a therapist after all of this is done.

Farmers Insurance came out to my place after some guy decided to attempt to steal my catalytic converter a couple years ago. Literally made 1 and a half cuts in my exhaust before presumably being spooked. The adjuster originally thought it could very well be totalled! He said he would have to look at recent sales in the area to determine true value....

The only sale they had on record was $8000 and I suggested that totalling it seemed like a great idea then (and ofcourse I would buy it back).... All said and done, got a check for about $1100! Essentially they wanted to replace the whole exhaust and that worked for me :)

The theif did get away with my neighbor's and now ex-gf's cats in the process (bopth 4runners). Apparently too much rust got in his eyes when he crawled under mine.

I would also recommend getting the motor mounts checked btw, some drunk idiot nailed my dd and one of them tore open from the sudden impact.

Glad to see your truck is going to get fixed and no one got hurt. Its one of the nicest ones on here.
