Just finished "modifing" mine and Yes they do fit if you take the last heat sink ring off at 45
degrees give or take. I did mine with a grinder stone and wire brush with good results in short time. It wouldent take much to make this design work perfect with out the need of shop time. It's a solid improvement in lighting. unfortunate that the designer hasent seen it through to compleation or it's just a matter of loose quality control. Regardless, I now have Kick Ass back up lights for 40 clams. Not bad regarles of the fitment issues. I'll be looking for a new sourse for my FJ40. I now see what all the LED buzz is all about. I think LED brake and turn lights are on the hurizon.

Aside from the potential for a shorter life span, any other side effects to modifying the last heat sink? I.e. potential for shorting out, etc.?

We'll see. I don't think It'll be a problem. Reverse lights don't stay on for very long anyway. I haven't had an excuse to drive any ware at night yet. Can't wait to test em out. I did take a photo of the LED in the Drivers side and the stock bulb on the passengers side for comparison
If anyone is interested.

Here's a pic of the ones I bought from superbrightleds.com They come as singles so I ordered 2. Didn't get a pic showing what they illuminate from the back, but I can see out of my tinted windows again (that's the darkest tint you can get too).
EDIT: Those were a perfect fit too. The ones from the beginning of the thread didn't fit my 85 FJ60, and I think I broke them while grinding down the heat sink to make them fit.

Looks impressive. A big upgrade from a typical 1156 bulb eh? I've got a few bulbs to order from those guys so I should throw a couple of these on order too.

Anyone run across 24V LED back up bulbs---didn't see anything on either web site...? (24V HJ60 diesel)
