Is there anyone under 50 who actually cares "who" reads the made-up, politically-slanted, agenda-driven news to them anymore? I mean, besides those employed at CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX news? Who actually think that the news colored by someone on "The John Doe Show" is actually worth watching? The icon of the "news anchor" faded decades ago, and these asshats are just holding on. The real tragedy is Jon Stewart leaving the Daily Show, where better, more insightful, and probably more honest news was delivered than all of the sanctimonious, supposedly-real news shows combined. Who me, cynical???![]()
I simply can't watch the "News" anymore. I do occasionally watch Fox news just to offset all the rest of the crap that manages to seep into my head through the course of a day. Why the F do I even know who Kim Kardashian is anyway.![]()
and, the truth is never in the middle - truth has noting to do with the smallest denominator
and, my bet is he is not coming back
The sad part is, we live in the information age, we're supposed to be informed. Instead the internet has allowed people to filter their information to fit their own biases and agendas. Instead of being informed, we've more narrow minded and polarized.
I agree, if you want to be informed, look at things from multiple perspectives and form your own opinions.
Prior to the information age the news was being filtered by the three major networks and the major news papers across the country, particularly the NY Times and the Washington Post, according to their agendas. Additionally, the major wire services also filtered the news based on their agendas.
Over the last 35 years the agenda of the old media has become obvious and as people have become aware of the way the news has been slanted they have sought out sources that they believe more accurately present the facts. Some have also sought out new sources of information that reinforce their existing beliefs, others stayed with the old media that already reinforced their beliefs. Human nature is what it is.
Although that might be easy to assume, the possibility of some grand conspiracy existing for over 200 years in a country with free speech is far fetched. An individual censoring what he reads, easily done.
CNN is not left-leaning - whatever is left of it (from when it was a reputable news organization): it's annoying

While I agree he is probably never coming back I disagree that the true is never in the middle. While not lying the extreme ends will avoid details that do not agree with there viewpoint. The complete story alot of times is a combination of both sides. Even lying I don't think is impossible to the extreme ends for this reason I avoid them. I listen/read mainstream media mainly because of accountability. From everything I've heard Bryan Williams is guilty of sensationalizing stories not trying to sway opinions to one side or the other. For this he off the air for at least six months if not forever. There are others who tell lies all the time with no accountability. Everybody in mainstream is going to be sure how they report there stories because of what happen to Williams. Everybody else I'm sure it will be business as usual.

It is not a matter of conspiracy, it is a matter of human nature. When you look at the political affinity of the staff of major mainstream news organizations you don't find a great deal of diversity. Its also not a conspiracy that the profession tends to attract idealistic people that want to change the world, or that they posses a similar world view and political inclinations. Its a self selected group by definition. It is far fetched to believe that they are not influenced by their worldview and personal beliefs when they report the news.
so, who's out there not influenced by their worldview and personal beliefswe all are, and so is everybody else - our brains cannot make sense of the world without preformed concepts - we interpret things in relation to what we know or have previously experienced
that doesn't mean people can't be adhering to truth when they report what they saw - which is what is at the bottom of this (nobody cares about Brian Williams political view or personal agenda) - the point is: he made factual claims about what happened to him that have been proven incorrect; he may or may not have made incorrect claims about what he saw in New Orleans, as well - regardless of political orientation, it's the untruthfulness that's his breaking point, nothing else (well, there maybe someone out there who had an axe to grind with him, but that's no longer relevant now that he shot himself in the foot)
granted, there are many other people who bend facts, embellish, exaggerate, obfuscate, slant, etc. - he was just most visible at it

The point is that these people ("news" anchors) pretend to adhere to this pious standard of unbiased news reporting, when in fact, they're just all about achieving newstainment nirvana and advancing their personal brand.so, who's out there not influenced by their worldview and personal beliefswe all are, and so is everybody else - our brains cannot make sense of the world without preformed concepts - we interpret things in relation to what we know or have previously experienced
