The point is that these people ("news" anchors) pretend to adhere to this pious standard of unbiased news reporting, when in fact, they're just all about achieving newstainment nirvana and advancing their personal brand.

In Russia there is no 'free' press--if you have more than 3k followers on social media you must register with the gov't. They have also outlawed the importation of negligee made from nylon, you may only wear underwear made of cotton. The Rupel has declined vs. the $ about 50% in past year; inflation is hitting everything from food to neglegee. Interest rates are above 15%; and the government is a kleptocracy. Soooo, I feel pretty good reading about your complaints, but I do wonder if Ted Nugent or the Kardashians are news?

News probably doesn't mean what you think it does-

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/news

: new information or a report about something that has happened recently

: information that is reported in a newspaper, magazine, television news program, etc.

: someone or something that is exciting and in the news

Why so much seemingly irrelevant information is in demand could be a decent discussion....

How about the play on simple minded fear:

example> "Could your child's lunches be causing them brain damage? what can YOU do to protect your kids??!! Stay tuned for the news at 11..."

All in the interest of gaining some slack jawed viewership percentages to create more advertising dollars. Its really shameful

Yup, see that kind of stuff all the time. It's amazing to me that it isn't obvious to everyone that IS watching how bad this type of "news" is. Then there is the advertising that follows with all the sideways talk that really means one thing but they are happy to let you misunderstand and be left with the opinion they wanted you to have. "Unsurpassed cleaning power, 9 out of 10 dentists prefer, recognized leader in X, Free trial No Risk, Just pay shipping and handling....

I believe it was Cronkite who predicted the death of journalism when news programs started pining for advertisers. I do think there are still a great number of journalists and some news outlets with noble intentions. But the industry as a whole is badly perverted.
