Brakes seem to stick when I release pedal ...

I pumped the brakes 50 times (as per the repair manual) and had no sticking problems on my test drive. For me, it was a temperature-related issue - brakes were fine in the cold, but started to stick around 80-85 degrees. When I turned the car on today, it was already 90 degrees so I have a pretty good feeling about it. Perhaps completely resetting the pressure when it goes from cold (at night) to hot (during the day) has something to do with increasing pressure? I don't know, but it worked.

Still sprayed the hell out of the pedal pivot, but I'm off to a good start.

We'll find out if it comes back soon enough. Forecast in SLC calls for 95-100 degrees for the foreseeable future...
How is this issue for you now? When I come to complete stop and release brake pedal it occasionally takes a 1/2 second or so for thr brakes to release and I usually can hear a mechanical clunk. I was planning on checking caliper pins (have replacements on hand for upcoming brake job) and lubing the brake pedal hinge. My master cylinder passes "the test" and shuts off at about 30 seconds iirc when doing the 40 pump test.

I ended up lubing the brake pedal and my MC passed the 40 pump great too, but it kinda resolved itself or I just don't notice it anymore. Could just be a 100 personality thing. At some point, I cleaned the MAF and throttle body and my idle jumped from 400 to 600rpm and, honestly, a lot of stuff felt like it worked better after the truck had a little more power to work with when stopped.

I'm experiencing the same brake-pedal-sticking issue on my '01 100 Series. Regarding the "40 pump" test with engine off, what should I be looking for to determine whether my M/C "passes or fails"? Also, do you have a recommendation on the type of lube?

Pumping while the engine is off will bleed off the MC so that it refills when you turn the car back on (ie, passes). If it doesn't, then presumably you've got something wrong there (ie, fails!).

I used CRC heavy duty silicone lube, but I can't tell if it actually helped or not.

I did the 40 pump test yesterday evening and recognized an immediate difference - no more sticking. No sticking this morning either. I too noticed the sticking may have correlated with temperature change. I bought my LC in February (which was historically cold for Louisiana) and did not have the sticking issue. The sticking manifested (and got worse) as we approached summer.

I am now having this problem with my pedal sticking after pressing on the brakes for stops, mainly. I have to full the pedal up with my foot otherwise I feel the brake holding me back. I guess I'll start with the test and then lube it all up. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. I have read a few posts, one from 2005... wish me luck!! Curious about the temperature and why it would make a difference??? It if for sure warm these days in NM, will go try before the heat of the day and see if I notice a difference.

I was having that sticky brake pedal issue but now its gone away and I didn't do anything other than that 40 pump thing a few times.
Not sure why, maybe you guys will get lucky too.

So far so good. I did the 40 pump with engine off, reservoir was at max, then turned engine on and fluid level when down a bit and no sticky pedal so far. Will check at the heat of the day and see if it's sticky. fingers crossed.

The master pump pushrod has so many cantilever mechanisms! I had a stick paddle too but I then install another brake paddle return spring, no more sticky paddle.

Good to know, I did not have a sticky peddle for a few days and I’m noticing it again at random. 🙄
I’ll research the spring. Thanks!

Now I remember, sometimes I lean forward to reach the paddle to push it up! Didn't do it for a while and since I saw your thread, I realized, I fixed it "permanently" by adding another spring!

Interesting. Do you by chance have a photo of the spring you installed?
Mine was sticking but not any more ... just want to be prepared just in case.
