The brakes on my 2002 LX470 feel like they are grabbing or
sticky . Just started a few days ago - before that they felt normal.
Any ideas???

Did you check the brake pads? Any wheel excessively hot after a drive?

OEM brake pads?

Id also inspect caliper pistons.

Sounds like you might have a frozen caliper. When you stop take your hands off the wheel-does it pull to one direction?

Har - this just happened to me - I changed my pads just to see if it fixed, but it pulls hard to the right when I brake somewhat hard... the left driver pad inside was super worn down compared to the others.

so not to thread-jack -but what do people replace the calipers with if they don't rebuild them brand-wise, if any? thanks.

I've always had good luck with autozone remans. Every set I've bought has been an OEM caliper rebuilt with what I assume is aftermarket parts.

I have seen this happen on a few vehicles that the caliper piston slides (pins) are never taken apart and cleaned and regreased when changing pads. Many shops just throw new pads in without cleaning the slides. The grease becomes old over time and the boots can decay letting moisture and crud in. Then the caliper will not slide properly wearing the pads down. I use permatex synthetic lubricant for caliper pins.

In another note I have seen caliper rebuild parts from the dealer. Does anyone know of any threads that describe caliper rebuilding in detail?

Fixing a caliper is easy.
Remove the dust boot and metal-ring retainer.
Remove the piston by pumping the brake paddle several times to push out the piston.
Remove the washer inside the caliper body (use a wood or plastic to lift off the old oil seal, but never a metallic object)
Clean everything and install the new washer.
Apply new brake oil on to the new washer and slide the piston in.
Install the new caliper dust boot and then install the metal-ring retainer.
Install new pads.
Bleed the system with ignition key at ON position.

Your brakes, did you recently have your parking brake on? Are you sure that just isn't seized. That's a super easy fix.

Its not sticking now.
I think you are on to something. Right before it occurred I think I did have my
parking brake on for a few miles.

I'm still new with 100's, in case it happens again what is the super easy fix ???

Ok, Landcruisers/ LX470 notorious for bell crank area rusting & sticking. So in the picture, to the right of where the cable goes in , you see the bolt off the plate assembly. In this picture my parking brake is on, so it should be off the plate. and the cable is tight Well when your parking brake is released/off, that bolt needs to be sitting flush/touching the back of the plate & cable will be looser. So if its stuck, you get under there put a bunch of PB blaster all around it, let it sit for a few minutes, that just kinda tugged back and for

th on the bell crank bolt area, getting it to move back and forth. Once you have it loosed it up well, if it ever sticks again, you just get underneath it and hit the bolt area with a mallet hammer to get it flush with the back plate again. Mine stuck like crazy in the winter temps. As far as replacing it, I haven't gotten to that yet, but the parts are CHEAP.

Delacruztaylor, thanks a lot for the great tip. I'll check the Parking Brakes on my LX.

Make sure you spray most of the PB blaster in the rubber boot area just to the left of the springs. that's where it gets stuck/sticks
