2000 Land Cruiser. Front Brake ( DRIVER SIDE )makes noise when I start braking. Pads are thin and its time to replace. That said, after I apply brake pressure and release, a rubbing / somewhat grinding noise remains. Could that still be the brakes ? Also thinking this might be a bearing, I turn the steering wheel to the RIGHT and the noise lessens. But remember, this is the LEFT Driver side bearing. Shouldnt it disappear if I turn the wheel to the left ?

Anyways, there is no play in the wheel when grabbing at 12 & 6.

Its time for bearing re-pack ( in addition to new pads and rotors ) but want to be prepared when I get in there. How do I know if the bearing needs to be replaced ?

Only way to know if bearings need replacing, is pull bearing and inspec races and bearings.

Anti wear indicate, will make sounds, even when foot off brake. Very often our front brakes are not assembled improperly.
We must have the shim kits, fitting kit and anti rattle spring all installed. Don't just assemble as seen when taking apart. Know how it should be assembled.

Stop by if you need help (DM/PM me) understanding how and with what.
