  1. I've never done brakes before (I'm due), seems straightforward enough and vids found here have me motivated.
  2. "Big Brake" upgrade on a '92 covered here. I've got 16" wheels so I'm assuming I can go a bit bigger (hoping to realize some increased stopping power).
  3. I've already got new 100 series pads, FYI.
What, SPECIFICALLY, else do I to purchase? I'd like to get everything I need in the next day or two.
  1. Since Duiser (jonesysoffroad.com) was kind enough to post the confidence-inspiring vids, seems like the right thing to do to order rotors from them. I'll have to contact them directly as the rotors for '93 - '97's only seem to come for all four corners per their website and I'm only doing fronts. If pursuing larger rotors via Duiser is the WRONG way to go, please let me know (I only ask because I don't know what I don't know.....).
  2. If there's a highly recommended alternative to the Performance 360 rotors from their site, please share.
  3. Re-manufactured calipers from NAPA sounds like the way to go. Headed there after work.
  4. Besides a few miscellaneous tools I realize I don't yet have, what else??? Is this it?
Last, there's mention of grinding dust shields to accommodate the larger calipers since I'm upsizing (seems like some have simply removed them entirely which I'm not up for). Easy to do or a no-brainer and just go get it done?

thx....

Remaned calipers from napa mated with ebc or stoptech pads and stoptech or dba drilled/slotted rotors and braided brake lines and you'll be golden with improved response and much more aggressive braking. Bbk imo are impractical for most all applications unless your doing heavy towing and need more surface area to help keep rotors cool or your tracking your car.

93+ dust shields
93+ calipers
100 series pads
93+ rotors

those are the parts needed for the front, if you want to do the rear to disks you will need to swap in a FF from a 93+

Much appreciated, I'm on it, thx lt1fire.

you also can just cut your factory dust shield but used 93+ are pretty easy to source.

while your doing it do the SS brake lines also

Picking up remans tomorrow (on order). Sent Duiser a PM for front pricing.

Whoever decided to rename PM's to "conversations" is an ass.

Pricing out some pieces has me convinced that cutting my existing dust shields is the way to go. Adding SS brake lines to my shopping list.....thx for the reminder.

Rotors - any reason NOT to go with OEM's? Aftermarkets seem to be 50% more at the low-end, easily doubles in price from there.

We sell drilled and slotted rotors for increased stopping power and brake rotor longevity, drilled and slotting prevents warping. That's why people buy them. I doubt you are looking at OEM pricing and instead OE pricing at your local parts store?? In which case they are always cheaper, OE rotors can be dirt cheap.

Why go to all this work and then slap OE rotors???

I got rid of the dust shield. No issues...

I'm doing this upgrade... This week... CARiD will prob be where I get all my stuff...

Nuegon reman '95 calipers

EBC '98+ 100 series 7000 greenstuff pads

EBC RK '95 rotors

New inner hub seals

S.S. Brake lines

Try to find used '93+ dust shields

So current state... my brakes suck. Been lame since I bought it a couple years ago... Prob cheap pads just thrown on wore out rotors, by prev. owner...

I'm also running hydro boost... I did one of those diesel swap things and converted then.

I Really believe this should be a huge difference especially coming from poor condition smaller '92 pads and rotors... Right?

I was hoping to hear some first impression feedback on braking feel and power... :steer: From the upgrades u made

Thanks:beer:

Just did mine. Got rid of the dust shields couple years ago.

I may skip the dust shields as well... They don't seem to be available for purchase from local parts stores... Aftermarket...

Did your upgrade give
Mild, Medium or Huge improvement in the stopping power department?

Thanks

I still have problems with mushy brakes. First I'll try to re bleed everything,
I think is has to do with the LSPV. BTW, nothing is OEM. The Chinese discs works fine for me. I had slotted/vented disc before and did not impressed me at all. First thing it happened they warped. I have two 92s, the second one is completely stock and stops on a dime; bake pedal hard... I have read about that LSPV adjustment and is a pain...

I should follow my own thread.....nice to see others doing this as well. I'm not running dust shields, hasn't been a problem although still on my mental "to do" list.

@jvazquez53 - mine were also REALLY mushy initially. I thought I had totally fudged the bleeding despite having felt I nailed it (first time doing that, took my time). Turned out I simply hadn't bedded in the new rotors yet. Do yourself a favor and LATE tonight (NO traffic), do some really HARD stops to help impregnate the rotors with pad material. Braking is a function of the pads contacting pad material buildup on the rotors, NOT pads directly contacting the rotors themselves. Until you get adequate pad material transferred to the rotors, the brakes won't function properly. That was the only thing I was missing, the mushy feel went away after that was done (hoping this is the same for you).

@Jvoight - completed mine quite a while back, nothing but positive things to say. Once the rotors were properly bedded, the braking was TREMENDOUSLY better. My rotors were REALLY bad so comparing before/after isn't really fair. That said, I have zero concerns being in traffic now. This reminds me, once the fronts were done I paid to have the rear drums worked on and adjusted. The fronts (my first time ever doing that work) were hard enough for me and didn't have the fortitude to go learn drums as well. Full disclosure from a somewhat lazy 1.5 banana mechanic.

Great to hear... I currently have "in traffic concerns"... Will be so nice to have confidence in stopping... Ordered rotors, pads and calipers yesterday!

Anyone have info or part # for the stainless braid brake lines they have used...?? Or where they sourced them from? Local parts store want much help... Seems they might be somewhat generic...?

Thanks

will this fit the stock 15" wheels?

I don't think they will from what I've read... At least not without some grinding and even then they may not... I'm sure someone here can give a definite answer...

The other thing I feel is noteworthy... Is I've seen some people say to go '95+ to eliminate brake options on the '93-'94 years... Some had abs, some didn't... Along with that some have thought that it wasn't till '95 that they all (for sure) came with the larger setup... Prob most '93-'94 had the larger setup... I went '95 to eliminate any potential for mismatched/ordered parts...

I'm also going to look into deleting the LSPV. I have firestone coil rite air bags which take the whole point right out of the LSPV.... I love being to level it out when loaded tho... I'm running 35" tires so I wouldn't mind having more pressure go to the rears all the time... Don't think they would lock with that size tire?? o_O

Opinions welcome...

Got my 91 rotor and caliper upgrade from R1 Concepts. They got good prices. And since you will get ride of the dust shields i would order the spacers from Trail gear.
