For those that go off-roading, I think you would want to stay away from dross drilled and slotted rotors. I need to refresh my brakes incl the calipers, but I'm leaning towards OEM rotors, maybe NAPA calipers, and OEM pads. I've only changed my rotors and pads once in 180K kms with OEM parts. Calipers are still original with 290K kms. I've never had a vehicle that came even close to this type of longevity with respect to brake parts.

As I already mentioned above the drilled rotors are indeed a PITA; I used to get them so packed full of dirt and debris that the inside venting vanes of the rotors would get completely clogged! In my experience though there's no worry with the slotted ones in any type of terrain. Despite some super hard almost abusive usage, the DBAs have never had any problems with warping. The OEM rotors are also awesome but I always had problems with pads glazing over without some slotting. To be totally fair that may be more a result of the EBC pads I was running with the OEM rotors but regardless those same EBCs (which I wasn't really happy with anyway) didn't glaze at all with either the slotted only or with the slotted and drilled. Hope that helps.

Ive had my truck for about 100K odd miles now, and just switched for the first time to Bosch rotors about two weeks ago. The reason? Set of front rotors was about $120, with a lifetime warranty, no arguments, stocked at local O'reilly. They warp, exchange em. They crack, exchange em. Wear em out, Exchange em.

I am an advocate of using OEM Toyota parts, but I'm done with the front rotors from Mr T. I have gone through two pairs of OEM Rotors in this 100K, both ended up horribly warped, neither had been turned on a lathe to reduce thickness. Both had been used with 100 series pads.
Bottom line, brakes are important, but the Bosch have been stopping very well and I don't have to buy rotors anymore.

On using 100 series pads:
My experience is that the pads need to be shaved to install, I cannot get them on with my current set of calipers (I did delete the shims) without doing so. I take a grinder with a new flap wheel 80 grit and take about 1/32 off each pad and can squeeze them in.

I remember the Mercedes-Benz G wagons that we tested down at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds got so full of mud, especially inside the vented rotors, that they decided in the end to go with solid rotors! The soil was something special that hardened into something like cement.

Just recently did all my brake stuff and wish I would have read thru here first... I ended up with EBC pads and rotors front and rear with good braking so far after about 7,000 miles. Wishing I knew about the 100 series pads because I've heard they live so much longer and my wife eats brakes up fast, all street driving to work in SoCal.... I do my best to avoid all forms of wet dirt but what other issues are there with the slotted and drilled rotors besides packing full of mud? To date for me no signs of warping and still stopping good for her weight...

Well I have Powerstop for 38k and no problems, just replaced brake pads at around 36.5K miles!

I use OEM rotors f/b and OEM pads rear. I use 100 series pads f and only had to remove the shims while retaining the OEM caliper.

I'm all for saving money too. But I sure won't do it on brakes. I'm not an OEM only guy, and I can't speak for these Bosch rotors, but most of these places with lifetime warranties are because the parts cost them so little. If the rotors are made in China, I won't use them. As always, JMHO.

Well thats your opinion and even if it is true I've never had an issue with any one of brake performances products in the last 10 years.

And I've used them on my old honda accord which 'warped' every rotor I put on it until I put the brake performance rotors on.

I tend to think they put a lifetime warranty on their products because they know they are superior. Not sure if they cryo treat or what, but I am 110% satisfied with every product I've bought from them including the FZJ parking brake pads.

I just ordered dimpled/slotted rotors, 100 series pads and caliper rebuild kits from Brake Performances Products and through in rebuild kits for the rear calipers "jus' 'cause" and got out for under $300 bucks...not bad in my book. I'll let y'all know what I think when the front is done.

Now, extended SS brake line hunt.

Do you really think that O'Reily's carries superior products? I think they are about the same as all the local auto parts houses.
