PLEASE HELP!

My truck is at the shop right now and they said that the T100 Brake Pads do not fit. Or at least they are not comfortable with grinding on the brake pads as they seem to line up, but there are tabs that would have to be ground off in order to go in.

Is this true?
Is there a specific thread for brake pad swap?
I know I have read about this - just can not find a specific thread and now my truck is at the shop and I am up against it!!

It the 100 series Landcrusiser you're thinking about, not the T100 pickup AFAIK. But I'm new here. Maybe you're onto something? Or maybe not?

O...M...G... The common swap is the 100 series Land Cruiser pads, for the front only.

Yup, 98-99 Landcruiser front pads. 04465-60220 if I'm not mistaken.

OK, I did purchase the "right pads" 100-Series
Toyota Part # 04465-60220

But, shop is saying some grinding is necessary to make the swap.
My TLC is a 1992 FJ80...

What is not right here?

Older rigs require grinding to make them fit. The newer rigs don't. I don't remember off hand which year that changed....

They fit OK in my '94

Note: You will have to push back the pistons as far as possible for them to just drop in... no mods needed.

brake dust? no shims

I will be doing this soon on my 93 FZJ80 and this is the first time I've heard about it. I was going to get some high quality pads from advance but now I'm thinking of going OEM. I have read from other posts that I need to leave the anti-squeal shims out... Is this right? I guess it won't make any noise without this shim? Also are the oem pads bad for brake dust? Sorry about all the questions. I was doing pretty good with search until i came across a post that confused me. Thanks!

Even after turning my discs (were in good condition so pretty much resurface) I still had to remove the anti-squeal shims, the pads are that thick. They make no noise without them... I kept the shims just in case ... when the pads wear out a bit I might just drop them back in.

The OEM 100 series pads I got where coated/painted in this plastic/rubber feeling paint... I guess that helps reduce squeal/vibration noise.

factory 16" wheels may be the first visual clue, I have to assume that a '93 with the FF rear end etc will take the '100 pads with no mods, your '92 will need the grinding to fit if what I have read is correct.

with these "custom" mods, i think it is best to build up your skills and do them on your own. i would not be comfortable having a shop install a mod that I am more familiar with, and i would assume many shops would not be comfortable doing some "internet" mod either

What's not right is you are using the incorrect brake pads for your vehicle. You are opening up this shop to tremendous liability. If it were my shop I wouldn't touch it.

That being said, if you want better brake performance out of your stock system then look at your system as a system rather than just a bunch of parts. If you have bad brakes, then changing pads isn't going to help you stop better.

The substitution of 100 Series front pads for 80 Series front pads is a popular un-sanctioned modification done at your own risk for 1993-97 FZJ80s and is not appropriate for 91-92 FJ80s.

FJ80, you're SOL. I'm very happy with my Autozone Duralast Gold ceramic front pads. They stop well, make nearly no dust, and no noise. Much better than the OEM pads that I replaced.

POOR US - '91-'92 FJ80's...

So, no go on the 100-Series Brake Pads - I replaced with stock pads and will look at this later...

I guess us poor '91-'92 FJ80's will not be going all that fast with the 3FE engine anyways... hehehe

sorry for the confusion for everyone!!!

What's up everyone,

New to the crew here, but I just wanted to post about my swap to the 100 series pads on the fronts only for my '96' FZJ80. Found a set on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Bosch-BC772-QuietCast-Premium-Brake/dp/B008HZOBUU)
and seemed like it went fine. It was a very tight fit. The only thing I had to do was remove the squeal shim and lightly tap in with a hammer. I rotate my tires every other oil change so I can take a peek and do a visual brake pad inspection and stay on top of it. well worth it if I get extra longevity from the process. hope this helps.
