Brake difference between 93/94 and 95-97?

Hi Everyone, Besides doing some off road adventures I'll be pulling a boat and was told that the 95-97 has the best brakes. What is the difference between the two? What do you all think it would take to upgrade the brakes to the 95-97 performance and still maintain 4-wheel ABS? Is there even better braking alternatives within reason? Thanks!
 
I'm pretty sure the brakes are the same from 94-97. Some early 93s reportedly have semifloater rear axles and drum brakes while later 93s have full-floaters and disc brakes.

I recenlty started using 100 series (front) brake pads in my 97. There seems to be an improvement in braking.

Check the archives for 100 series pad info. Source them from C-Dan.
 
My understanding is that 100 series pads give longer life, not necessarily better braking. Best thing you can do is have brakes on your trailer.
 
I'll second the brakes on the trailer. I may move to 100 series pads on my next rotor change out, but that won't be for awhile yet, I hope. Should have another 30K easily on current rotors based on the original set going 90K.

I did a side by side visual comparison.

The 100 series pads are thicker than the 80 series pads. Thicker would mean (in my book) longer life.

The surface area is somewhat larger with the 100 series pads as compared to the 80 series pads. Greater surface area (to me) means better braking performance.

Since I'm too lazy to remove the 100 seroes pads, insert a set of 80 series pads, seat them correctly, conduct a test, then reinsert the 100 series pads, measure results, etc. I guess all I have to go by is my seat-of-the-pants feel that braking performance has improved.
 
Don't listen to these guys. There all a bunch of sheep... bah-ah-ah-ah-ah... bah-ah-ah-ah-ah.

Stick with the 80 series pads and the 10k change intervals.

Both '93s and '94's can have rear semifloaters with drum brakes. (also will not have ABS). ABS was the $1000+ option that netted you a RR FF and 4whl disc, and was a prerequisite for lockers.

Case in point: "Sangamo" (Steve Smith) has a '94 with rear drums and semifloater.

Not aware of any differences 93-97 (93-94 of course including ABS-optioned trucks only), other than a different, longer lasting, brake pad material on '97 trucks.
 
To sum up, any 93 and newer, that has rear disc brakes, are the same. From what I have heard/seen it is very rare to find a 93/94 without the full floater/4 wheel disc ABS.

Seriously -- I knew 93 was a vague semi vs. full floater year, but didn't know about the 94s
