Hi

First 100 series, my vechicle has about 217k, some rust - but I've taken a liking to it.

I've been through the ringer with brakes on this thing. First, I completely lost brakes while in a drive-thru after doing a 15 mile highway drive. Strangely, when this happened, white smoke emitted from under the hood. I saw the front brake rusted out and sprung a leak onto the exhaust. After gaining the courage to repair the FR brake line, immediately after testing, something sprayed directly under the body, and the rear line also sprung a leak. With the fear of chasing my tail with brake lines - I went ahead and made all new line for the car.

After installing, I get brakes and no alarm but I leak by the front driver side wheel. I will admit, I don't have the FSM, and not familar with the procedure - I pumped 40 times and filled the resrvoir. What am I missing? Did/Can you overfill the reservoir? I'm trying to avoid purchasing a complete system.

Thanks

I recommending reading 2001LCs thread on brakes.

Ignition off and then 40 pumps… then fill reservoir.

Thanks! this write up is great.

At this point, should I drain all the fluid and start over?

You never said where the fluid is actually leaking from. If it is overflowing out of the top of the reservoir, just remove an inch worth of fluid and perform test again until it’s within range.

That's the issue - I can't tell where its leaking from.it's

Clean it all off. Wrap areas in paper towel and then Saran Wrap over that.

There is also a couple O-rings between the reservoir and the MC that could leak. The reservoir just kinda floats on top.

Great idea - I will order the O- rings and check back. By the way, is Andy Le still around? If so, how would I find him?

Just reporting back - I went out this morning and performed the pump test! the fluid was filled way past the max line.

The pump ran off and on for about 37 seconds and stopped - not sure if thats a good sign.

I think that’s an ok running time. There’s a breakdown in that thread with how long they should run after emptying pressure in the system.

Reporting back - its leaking from where the motor connects - is there any fix for this, like a seal or gasket?

Sound like you've a money pit. A rust bucket, that will suck you dry and never have resale value. Are you sure you want to keep pumping money in this one?

If so, list year and model. Post picture of the whole brake master, its reservoir, the leak from all angles and the brake control wire connection points (inside the boots).
