Brake Booster Cross Reference

I'm needing to replace my brake booster for my 77 FJ40, and would like to compile a list of boosters that will swap over for the repair. I've read threads of 60's, mini's, 4runners, T100's even Supras could fit. For clarity, and "one stop shopping" when I'm at the pick-and-pull, I'm hoping for help compiling a list of boosters that will work.

I would prefer dual diaphram boosters, and if anyone has a picture of the check valve for the newer boosters would be appreciated.

Looking for real life experience here, what actually works, and not hear say, I plan on keeping my existing master.

I replaced mine with a really huge booster from an Isuzu truck. Didn't fit the mounting holes so I made new ones. Came with the master cylinder. All worked fine. I believe this is a dual system with a large diaphragm. I will get you pics and the part number (if i can find it).

Thanks, but I would prefer a more direct bolt on application. With all the Toyota's in the bone yards, I would like to get cross references from the same. I am just hoping to get years, and models that will work on the FJ40 without going the rebuild route. I don't have a restore project, so I don't mind swapping a different model, and year booster...In fact, the newer the booster, the better as far as I'm concerned...

Try on off a non-abs 80. Works great in my '76.

I replaced mine with an FJ60 booster. Check valve is mounted on the booster, all you have to do is flip it upside-down and cut off a little bit of the threaded pushrod.

Minitruck boosters have the same mounting pattern, on some later models the check valve is located down the hose a little ways, so don't miss it.

Last week I installed a booster from an 83 Celica Supra. The check valve is integrated into the booster. Had to turn it 180 degrees so the pedal push rod would fit through the firewall. Other than than, direct bolt up. I had to go with the smaller diameter booster from the Supra as I had firewall space restrictions on my '73 FJ40. The '76 firewall is configured slightly different.

I have a 70 fj40. Converted to 83 mini truck knuckles in front. Had to use mini truck outer Axles fj inners. Also used mini truck front disc brakes chevy rear discs. The 83 mini truck booster had to be ground a Lil to fit an I had to shorten pushrod about 1/2 inch. Brakes work great no proportion valve.

What is the latest year of 4 runner has anyone used? I have read as late as a '93...I'm planning on buying a booster this weekend...I was hoping for a little better response...looking for a list to take to the pick-and-pull...

Anything Toyota will fit....celica, supra, minitruck, 60-series, 80-series (Lexus LX450 also).....

Grab whatever is available and make sure the pushrod adjustment is not seized. If from a 60 grab the external check valve.

I have personally used the latter 4 and read of others using the first 2.
