I need to adjust my brakes as my front are pulling on the driver's side. But here is the question that you will have to think about. My 1973 FJ40 has two adjusting rings and I do not know which way to adjust them to loosen or tighten.

So if I was under the rig and looking at the back of the wheel hub, I would see one adjusting hole on the rear side of the axle and another one on the front side of the axle. rear being the rear of the rig and front being the front) If I was working on the pass. side brake, which way would I turn the front adjuster to tighten? Towards the axle or away? Which way would I turn the rear adjuster to tighten? towards the axle or away? Are they the same way for both pass. and driver's sides?

Provided the wheel cylinders have not been installed on the wrong sides by a PO...you would insert the adjusting tool into the opening and lever it AWAY from the axle housing to adjust the brake shoe closer to the drum.

It is the same front or rear, driver or passenger side.

I would make sure that the rears are working properly also, as a non functioning rear brake on one side will make the car pull also...

Good luck!

Thanks Steve. So it does not metter which side of the axle the openins are on, I would always turn away form the axle to tighten.

If I was looking at the pass. side, I would turn counter clockwise and for the front one and clockwise for the rear one.

How ever you want to describe it....do the above, and you will be fine.

Good luck!
