Thought I’d keep it simple and it couldn’t be more appropriate.

We just got home with Bonnie and we couldn’t be happier. 1000 miles, 4 states and around 16 hours driving back home we are so excited.

Have to give Jim and Bonnie a big thank you. Words don’t express how thankful we are. Bonnie told Kim she wasn’t quite ready to let it go which made it difficult for Kim and I.

Wind came up taking pic of Jim and Bonnie before we left getting some dust in my eyes and I’ll be damned if it didn’t kick up again driving away. Kim, now she was crying as we pulled away.

We took our time for sure. Windows down 95% of the entire trip. Thankfully today Texas was overcast and upper 80s. Kim even took a nap somewhere in the Texas panhandle. We took the small highways as far as we could. I didn’t want to be on I25 or I40 more than I had to.

Stopped in Dalhart and gave her a good wash after we killed a few bugs. She runs great! I even passed 4 cars (3 had hazards on and other driver was OLD) and two semis (both going up mountains).

So many cool memories. @PabloCruise i did see your Milagros (sp) last night. Brought back some less than favorable memories from the days I thought I would focus on good tequila and one brand I liked had same name!!

Bonnie is tucked inside the shop, had to take pic of Kim opening our gate as it was last obstacle to getting home.

Can’t wait to carry on the pig party tradition.

What was funny was the troopers were put in force in western Oklahoma earlier today. Of course we weren’t at risk of speeding but everyone we saw pulled over (4 in 20 miles) had just passed us.

We got to relive some fond memories in Gunnison, Kim and I stayed at the Western motel 28 years ago. Had our original lab, Sadie who was great traveler.

Son ran track at Western for one year and broke our hearts when he didn’t want to go back.

I kid Kim, she was snapping photos left and right. Must be due to Asian heritage

Nice break in trip Jon. Glad you two didn’t have any problems along the way. Flew into Gunnison once about 30 years ago for a horseback elk hunt in the West Elk Wilderness Area. Beautiful area.

Agree Greg, it’s a beautiful area. After moving away from Steamboat we were counting on Joshua providing us some opportunities to return to CO to watch him run for a few years.

He had different plans

Have to love the different scenery America has to offer. Spires, blue mesa reservoir, mountains, high desert, small canyons of Texas panhandle final pic heading down our dirt road with mature tree canopy.

Saw elk, antelope, bald eagle, coyote off I25 and a bunch of road kill!

Shyt loads of Subarus and Texans driving out I25, kid you not most cars from Walsemburg and even within the mountains were from Texas.

We couldn’t be happier about how our 14 years with the Frankencruiser, now “Bonnie”, ended. Must have been some residual dust in the air here in Grand Junction when Jon messaged this afternoon asking permission for the new name. Fitting, as Bonnie was the one who suggested we sell her beloved Karmann Ghia back around 2009-early 2010 and use the money to do something with that leftover parts carcass sitting behind the fence beside the garage.
At the end of the day (and our custody) I have fond memories of the build, subsequent mods, and so many adventures during 50,000 miles in every western state except OR and WA. But the best part was the “thrill of the chase” going through five Pigs to make one,
midnight parts finds on MUD, wrenching with the friend of 40-years who’s responsible for turning concepts into reality and especially all the friendships forged here and at Pig Parties all over the West.
We’ll have to enjoy all that vicariously for awhile.
Onward…there’s still the old Porsche we bought brand new 53 years ago as a young couple and a couple of old Honda CT trail bikes with around 1000 miles each to fiddle with. Have to see how the rooftop tent looks on the ‘94 F250.
Hope Kim and Jon have twice as much fun with the Pig as we did.

Awesome!

The road goes on forever and the party never ends…

Don’t be a wimp Jon. At about 10% off this was actually 80+ mph in overdrive. Figured it wasn’t smart to take my hands off the wheel following Scraps to Boise at an actual 90 mph while Deo was passing us like we were standing still.
SBCs and 27% overdrives rule!

Bounced out of bed for work, so wanted to drive Bonnie to work.

Kim going to get proof of insurance so I can get her tagged tomorrow. Since I can’t get to work without some toll roads, a pike pass will be purchased after tag obtained.

After these items it’s game on for some daily driving.

Looking into AC which should be relatively easy. A stereo as I have to have tunes while driving.

Stereo solved for now.
Good thing I don’t throw much away, charged up the old iPod and music blared from the speakers!!! Good thing my taste in music hasn’t changed in a long time.

As if Jim wasn’t kind enough to sell us Bonnie, she came with some cool old window accessories.

I have those same camouflage seat covers on my pig. One of the first things I bought.
Damn things wear like iron. Bought ‘em on closeout from Specter. Had the front bench cover redone to cover the F150 captains chairs when my sore A$$ finally had enough of that miserable front bench.
