July 21, 2020 Update:
• Turbos: BW shipped out four of the other half of the turbos last Friday and there are supposedly a handful more coming in two more batches. So at least there is some completed turbo units on site.
• J-pipes- These are all cut and bent and in various stages of welding. Due to the virus the pipe shop has a skeleton crew that is focused on COVID related contracts so my stuff has to wait til they are done with emergency COVID jobs
UPDATE: COVID jobs still priority but they are able to get non-COVID related jobs started. They have asked me to contact them on Friday morning for a more accurate update on my stuff.
UPDATE 7/21/20: 12 J-pipes are promised to me within two weeks. Another batch will take a couple weeks after that. But at least its happening.
• Nameplate- These get welded onto the J-pipe but totally not necessary to have a working turbo. But since I already had these in process I wanted them done. Issue was my usual shop closed their doors. Found a new shop 2000 miles away that had some free time to work these in and I jumped on it. They are done and in transit to the pipe shop for eventual welding
UPDATE: Pipeshop has these ready to go as soon as time slot opens up
UPDATE 7/21/20: Ready to add to committed dozen J-Pipes.
• A/C bracket- these were also in production and were cut but not bent nor had the hardware been pressed in. This was with my usual shop which closed and moved to new shop. This is done and on its way to powder coat.
UPDATE: These came back to me from powder coat BUT the Pemnuts were NOT installed at all. I didn't catch that with the picture they sent. These were sent back to the new shop where they received them, pressed in the pemnuts and shipped out the finished units out to me today.
UPDATE 7/21/20: These are ready and kitted here at the shop.
• Downpipes- these are 95% done but the last thing waiting is the lower V-band fitting. The shop that makes them has a long delay to supply until the lockdown is lifted. The pipe shop suggested a different manufacturer for the V-bands (Vibrant) but I am 100% against that because then it means there are major differences that would be out in production and it would make securing replacement parts a nightmare. Sorry, I'm not doing that to myself nor to an eventual customer with a mythical problem 5 years from now.
UPDATE: I'm still waiting on an update about this.
UPDATE 7/21/20: Pipe shop is less committed to the timeline on these because they have no cut pieces ready. Starting from scratch. They will try to work them in after the J-Pipes.
• Downpipe clamp bracket- these were also with my old shop. Moved to new shop and should be ready in two weeks.
UPDATE: These are done and on their way to me.
UPDATE 7/21/20: here and packaged and ready to go.
• Turbo and downpipe blankets- PTP got the orders from their local Austin city gov't to close so all orders all on hold for the time being. Of course I'm on that list.
UPDATE: I got an email from them today that they are back in production. Waiting to hear about timeline.
UPDATE 7/21/20: They pushed me for over a month
but today gave me a commitment to three weeks.
• Aluminum Intake Tubes- two of the three pieces are done but the third, they one with the vent tube requiring welding, is not done and won't be until things start up again.
UPDATE: Part of the Friday update.
UPDATE 7/21/20" pipe shop claims these are easy and will commit to the time when the J-Pipes are done. Only one small tube gets welded so its something they say is only a couple hours work.
• Denso spark plugs- these are just generally delayed coming from Japan. Everything I've needed coming from Japan has now been taking on average 3x as long
UPDATE: I have 38 spark plugs heading to me now. The remaining units are 3-4 weeks out.
UPDATE 7/21/20: Denso has f'ing problems!! Back in May they said first week of July. Now they are saying it will be another 2-3 weeks for fulfillment.
• Oil hoses- I had planned to have these shipped to me for my 5/15 deadline. I should have ordered them earlier apparently. Although this shop is located in Los Angeles County, they were able to stay open no problem since they are considered essential. Unfortunately they have been 100% focused on emergency COVID projects since they make MANY hoses used for emergency vehicles and hospital maintenance. They have told me they will do what they can to help with warranty issues as needed but all of my orders have to wait until things slow down.
UPDATE: I've been told they should be able to start working on my hoses end of next week.
UPDATE 7/21/20: I haven't pushed them because I'm still waiting on other stuff but I called today and they said they are all done except for the one steel end that I need to plate to make them black. We both forgot to ask each other.
So that's where we are right now. I have a couple little things here and there to get but I haven't focused on those until the big chunks arrive.
Right now there is still no "WHEN" but the marbles are all moving forward.
Before you ask "What Group and Number am I?", I have to reevaluate the Grouping assignment because those that all pushed before you (and there were plenty before ALL of those who are eager to get theirs) months ago are now voicing their interest in getting their turbo. This is because they have their place in line. They push so others can move forward. But with each turbo batch shipments they get first right of refusal again. For example: I may have said you were next in line or third in line of whatever for the next batch. That will change because those three or four or six folks that pushed before you have changed their mind and ready to take theirs.
I very much appreciate how gracious you have all been with your patience. It means a lot to me right now. But I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
EDIT: BTW, I hope everyone waiting has seen enough postings between here, IG and FB to know these are real and these are out there and folks are loving them. Individual issues here and there but trust me when I say I absolutely work with every one of these folks at all hours to make sure they are happy with their install and feel good about the purchase and know it was worth the wait.
