Personally I’d start with the pusher fan, go from there. I was in Moab couple weeks ago 100 degrees, ac on full blast, no turbo and Ron Davis radiator. I ran into cooling issues as well. These engines produce a lot of heat. Ordered a blue fan and installing pusher fan soon as well. My turbo Is ordered.
Will see how my trip goes tomorrow, going to put a few hundred miles of highway on the new setup. They definitely do produce a lot of heat, but once you take up every ounce of real estate under the hood, you have less places for hot air to escape. Hood vents make a lot of sense to me.

My understanding is temps in the 207-216 is to be expected under load on a warm day and nothing to worry about. I just came through Vegas to SoCal on Monday at 105 air temps and on level stretches saw 193-197. Long grades would see up to 215 but usually less. I would turn off the ac as a precaution. I have a newer, stock radiator and a well maintained cooling system with fresh coolant. In preparation for my turbo I’ll install the blue fan and if needed a radiator upgrade. Ron Davis or Champion. It’s been a super long wait for the turbo. Hopefully Joey will be able to fulfill my order soon.
At 210 I am getting nervous, at 215 I am biting my nails.

Hood vents make sense.

I would also be fine with 210-215 for long grades, engine working hard.

AC cut-off is 226. That’s when I start to worry.

I might be a cowboy but personally 105C is when I start to think about lifting off the throttle, even if you didn't have coolant in the system, with a decent radiator cap at 14 psi, it won't boil till 240f or thereabouts. Add ethylene glycol at 50% and it won't boil till ~270. Not advocating running it that hot but you won't hurt it at 215f constantly

Curious if you guys are running snorkels? After the blue fan clutch, that was the next largest improvement I saw with engine temps, even more so than the hood louvers.

That’s really the only reason I have one.

I have one sitting in a box waiting it’s turn to get installed.

In Socal that's the main reason to have a snorkel. Cooler air to the motor. We sure don't have any deep water crossings anywhere.

same. as “right” as one looks on an 80, I really didn’t want one, especially with all the comments it brings 😂, but I knew it would really help engine temps, and it did.

This was a super long and worthwhile read. I have a pre obd II 1994 and am super interested as many are about getting this done.

I know Safari used to make the kits, and as many referenced, seemed to kill themselves out of market by insisting upon their dealer network, from Australia doing the installs.

I would be interested in being a California Guinea pig and would try to enlist Yota Masters help on this if needed. This really sounds like you have done a ton of the work, ( sorry, no sounds like, you Have ) and I need to re read it all again as it just made my night to read how successful you have been with this so far.

please let me know how I can help.

What os the torque spec for the turbo to the t4 flange - thnx. Its the last thing

July 21, 2020 Update:

• Turbos: BW shipped out four of the other half of the turbos last Friday and there are supposedly a handful more coming in two more batches. So at least there is some completed turbo units on site.

• J-pipes- These are all cut and bent and in various stages of welding. Due to the virus the pipe shop has a skeleton crew that is focused on COVID related contracts so my stuff has to wait til they are done with emergency COVID jobs
UPDATE: COVID jobs still priority but they are able to get non-COVID related jobs started. They have asked me to contact them on Friday morning for a more accurate update on my stuff.
UPDATE 7/21/20: 12 J-pipes are promised to me within two weeks. Another batch will take a couple weeks after that. But at least its happening.

• Nameplate- These get welded onto the J-pipe but totally not necessary to have a working turbo. But since I already had these in process I wanted them done. Issue was my usual shop closed their doors. Found a new shop 2000 miles away that had some free time to work these in and I jumped on it. They are done and in transit to the pipe shop for eventual welding
UPDATE: Pipeshop has these ready to go as soon as time slot opens up
UPDATE 7/21/20: Ready to add to committed dozen J-Pipes.

• A/C bracket- these were also in production and were cut but not bent nor had the hardware been pressed in. This was with my usual shop which closed and moved to new shop. This is done and on its way to powder coat.
UPDATE: These came back to me from powder coat BUT the Pemnuts were NOT installed at all. I didn't catch that with the picture they sent. These were sent back to the new shop where they received them, pressed in the pemnuts and shipped out the finished units out to me today.
UPDATE 7/21/20: These are ready and kitted here at the shop.

• Downpipes- these are 95% done but the last thing waiting is the lower V-band fitting. The shop that makes them has a long delay to supply until the lockdown is lifted. The pipe shop suggested a different manufacturer for the V-bands (Vibrant) but I am 100% against that because then it means there are major differences that would be out in production and it would make securing replacement parts a nightmare. Sorry, I'm not doing that to myself nor to an eventual customer with a mythical problem 5 years from now.
UPDATE: I'm still waiting on an update about this.
UPDATE 7/21/20: Pipe shop is less committed to the timeline on these because they have no cut pieces ready. Starting from scratch. They will try to work them in after the J-Pipes.

• Downpipe clamp bracket- these were also with my old shop. Moved to new shop and should be ready in two weeks.
UPDATE: These are done and on their way to me.
UPDATE 7/21/20: here and packaged and ready to go.

• Turbo and downpipe blankets- PTP got the orders from their local Austin city gov't to close so all orders all on hold for the time being. Of course I'm on that list.
UPDATE: I got an email from them today that they are back in production. Waiting to hear about timeline.
UPDATE 7/21/20: They pushed me for over a month :( but today gave me a commitment to three weeks.

• Aluminum Intake Tubes- two of the three pieces are done but the third, they one with the vent tube requiring welding, is not done and won't be until things start up again.
UPDATE: Part of the Friday update.
UPDATE 7/21/20" pipe shop claims these are easy and will commit to the time when the J-Pipes are done. Only one small tube gets welded so its something they say is only a couple hours work.

• Denso spark plugs- these are just generally delayed coming from Japan. Everything I've needed coming from Japan has now been taking on average 3x as long
UPDATE: I have 38 spark plugs heading to me now. The remaining units are 3-4 weeks out.
UPDATE 7/21/20: Denso has f'ing problems!! Back in May they said first week of July. Now they are saying it will be another 2-3 weeks for fulfillment. :(

• Oil hoses- I had planned to have these shipped to me for my 5/15 deadline. I should have ordered them earlier apparently. Although this shop is located in Los Angeles County, they were able to stay open no problem since they are considered essential. Unfortunately they have been 100% focused on emergency COVID projects since they make MANY hoses used for emergency vehicles and hospital maintenance. They have told me they will do what they can to help with warranty issues as needed but all of my orders have to wait until things slow down.
UPDATE: I've been told they should be able to start working on my hoses end of next week.
UPDATE 7/21/20: I haven't pushed them because I'm still waiting on other stuff but I called today and they said they are all done except for the one steel end that I need to plate to make them black. We both forgot to ask each other. :(

So that's where we are right now. I have a couple little things here and there to get but I haven't focused on those until the big chunks arrive.

Right now there is still no "WHEN" but the marbles are all moving forward.

Before you ask "What Group and Number am I?", I have to reevaluate the Grouping assignment because those that all pushed before you (and there were plenty before ALL of those who are eager to get theirs) months ago are now voicing their interest in getting their turbo. This is because they have their place in line. They push so others can move forward. But with each turbo batch shipments they get first right of refusal again. For example: I may have said you were next in line or third in line of whatever for the next batch. That will change because those three or four or six folks that pushed before you have changed their mind and ready to take theirs.

I very much appreciate how gracious you have all been with your patience. It means a lot to me right now. But I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

EDIT: BTW, I hope everyone waiting has seen enough postings between here, IG and FB to know these are real and these are out there and folks are loving them. Individual issues here and there but trust me when I say I absolutely work with every one of these folks at all hours to make sure they are happy with their install and feel good about the purchase and know it was worth the wait.
