Any trained eyes, did a few searches. Need to locate a windsheild frame and need to know which one to get (or rob from chia).

They sold it to me as a basket case... parts from different cruiser. The front bezel is a newer style, the top is newer (78+?). The colors are different so I believe that the parts are from different cruisers.

Thanks in advance.

Any trained eyes out there tonight?

My thoughts are to put a 2F / 4spd / splitcase in it from an 83 FJ60... or pull the engine out of Chia.

Its setup for the 350.

My guess is 9/71-9/72 by the looks of the charcoal canister.

Front clip I would say post 74-75 due to the coolant/washer bottle on D/S, but I see a square bezel which would indicate 80’s, further the front apron has the bullet marker lights which were found on the early to mid 1960’s FJ40’s. The Tub is early 70's W/single break master W/O booster but I noticed that the rear of the tub is stepped for the ambulance doors which would have come with the 1976 and up hard top w/wing windows, like the one on this truck. The frame looks to be from the same time as the tub having the round tail lights. What about the engine mounts are they for a V-8? I'm sure someone is going to correct me as these years are approximates but I think I’m in the ball park.

Good Luck!

the frame number should be on the rh frame rail up front IIRC. Here's what it looks like. Mine was invisible until I took the paint off too.

Try a 3M paint/rust wheel they are pretty good and wont hurt the numbers

Nice number!

I think.

The front cowl is 1972 or older. If you look at the rib going up between the clutch master and brake master, it goes straight up. Late 72 or 73 they started dog legging to the side to make room for the vacuum booster.

The lever to engage and disengage the 4x4 drive is not on the dash.

Is that a dash light just to the right of the glove box? Didn't those come on the factory soft tops?

You will need an early windshield 65-12/74. The cowl Is 7/71 or earlier. If the bib is original to the body then the cowl is 10/69 or earlier.

Quite the Frankenstien you have there!

I'll buy that dash light mentioned above should you want to sell it?

Ok, figured out the frame number... looks like November 1972. You guys are good. Took a cordless with a wire wheel out there.

And some pictures of the light.

Called DOL. They gave me the name of the owner... who lives / lived in Shelton, WA. Last time it was registered was 1989. It is titled as a 1973.

The tub is not from an early 73 model. 72 model would of have power brakes and stamped louvers on both side of the cowl. 73 of had a gas fill door not a cut out. Pre 72 didn't have power brakes and pre 68 models didn't have padded dash. Making the tub a 68 thr 70 model. My 68 had the red flasher knob not sure if it went all the way thru 70.

Looked again, unless the hole for the side marker was filled in this would not be a 70 tub. All of 70 and some of 69 had side marker light early had a reflector with two screw holes.

A question on the early 73 frame (10/72) does the rear crossmember that runs behind the transfer case have the later four shift bend where the hand brake drum is? The reason I ask is my 2/73 already has it even though the four speed didn't start until teh mid 74 model year. I'm just curiuos how early it started.

Hey, I'll definitely look and let you know... though it may be a few days.

Called the Guy that gave this to the guy I purchased it from. Well he got it from a guy that used to work with him.... and he got it from the guy that its currently titled to. Unfortunatly the DOL gave me an address that doesn't exhist. Erin "the Guy" said that all he know about the titled owner is that he used to build 40's and he went to Jeeps... when he did he sold 4 cruisers to the guy he got this one from and they were all just basketcases put together to get off his lot. I cannot locate the original owner.... so don't know what to do at this point except wait and think.

Just a little history that I thought was cool. Last registered 1989 and hear that it had 37's under it at one point.

Cheers

I have a OEM softtop tub, but no dash light.

If you would like to sell it, I'll pay top dollar!

But I would say you have a "Johny Cash Special" right there...

my 69 soft top has that same dash with red knob and light,my 70 does not have the light or the hole for it and the red knob was changed at the factory.

the rear tub looks to be 75 to 78 check out rear door opening .its set up for ambulance doors and has only 1 hinge per side should have 2 hinges on each side 3 holes each. good luck

wow... that dash light is popular. I might have Chia sold... but I'm also thinking.....
