I am building a 76' fj40 in Canada.
The frame going to Galvanize next, and I am still buying some body parts...

  • I understand that the hardtop side panels are all the same pre 77' back to about 70'?
  • The tub is the same pre 77' back to ? (Some difference in the gas intake/tool box under seat?)
  • As well the amb doors started in 75', and went to 82' - are they all the same?
I really appreciate this site (wife don't) Thanks for your time.

Hi All:

Can't help you with the hard top sides.

The tubs are slightly different from early to 1967, 68 - 72, 73 - 78, and then much different 79 - 84. That said, any of the 78 and early tubs interchange.

The rear amby doors lasted until 1984 (end of the 40/42 Series.) Dunno if these doors changed any year to year.

Good luck!

Alan

Thanks Alan.
I will keep my search down to 74 - 77 tubs, and look close at the differences. This helps when looking at whole trucks for all the parts I need.
Again - Thanks!
Mike.

put 72 tub on my 77 frame using all 77 parts. mod firewall for steering colum had to enlarge hole alittle. used 72 tranny cover and gas petal. cut alittle out of rib for booster over all pretty much bolt on.

Thanks again, but I am pretty sure I am using the 76' cowl that I have. I will be putting a different tub from the the front of the front doors back - though the complete body is off. This should keep the work down.
Cheers:beer:

Hi All:

My rig is a real mix n' match of parts; among other things I have the rear 2/3s of a '68 body tub on a '74 FJ40 chassis mated to the '74 front cowl.

The '68 rear tub bolted right-up on the '74 - all I really lost was the gas cap door.

Good luck!

Alan

One thing i ran into on my 76 tub that you might is the positioning of the holes on the rear sill for which ever style of spare tire carrier you are running?? Not a big deal obviously they will interchange but i thought I would mention it
