The more I read about the 200 the more intrigued. However, I am afraid going from "the ultimate driving machine" ( and the ultimate most unreliable SUV I ever had) to larger SUV. Any comments?

Read about the suspension available. It will not be a BMW however the 200 can be made to handle better and there maybe a supercharger available that takes the hp to over 500 (that would be fun)! The SC is already available for the Tundra. What about a Cayenne GTS? Those things insane and do not require modification. They are same price as 200. http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/cayenne/cayenne-gts/ Then you can say "Porsche, There is no substitute (for the unreliabilty and maintenance required)!

Thanks for the info, but I have friends that have the Porsche and off road is not very good. Also the maintenance is very expensive and the reliability is a s good as the BMW ( not too good)

I have driven the Porsche and BMW...The LC is the ultimate...however, it is a truck ride, while the BMW is a car ride.

The 200 is incredible off road. When we hit it mountain style, I sit and drink tea and my son watches movies while the rig does the work... everyone else is struggling through the trails.

I considered all the above when looking for my newest vehicle.

My biggest consideration was the amount of passengers it could handle and the ability to do mods.

I needed the ability for 4 car seats PLUS a double stroller.

Also the ability to mod the LC is already known.

I kind of think you are comparing totally different kinds of vehicles. Yes, the X5 and Cayanne are clssified as SUV's, I would definitely put them into more of a crossover classification than a true body on frame SUV that the LC is. If you spend most of your time on the highway, the Bimmer and Porsche are definitely more "sporty" and better handling than the LC. They are also quite a bit smaller in size and cargo volume than the LC. The LC is much more rugged, upright and trucky, I would say. There are also tons of products in the aftermkt to make the LC more capable in the rough than those other two could ever imagine ! It all depends on your wants and needs. I seriously doubt that the majority of people here on MUD really "need" all of the capability that the LC possesses. Same analogy as a 200mph 911TT...You may never use all of its potential but, it's nice to know it is there, just in case !! :grinpimp:

It is funny that you bring this subject up. I have been convinced I am going to get either a 200 or a RR s/c as my next vehicle..I saw a new Cayanne the other day and kind of thought to myself, "that might be a possible alternative." I don't get out in the sticks like I did when I was younger..I actually think I might test drive a Cayenne next time I am in Dallas and see what I think. My gut tells me I am still going to lean the LC or RR way though. Still, it doesn't hurt to shop around. Come to think of it. I almost think I would be more interested in a V10 TDI Touareg than the Porsche.:hhmm: I know, I have heard horror stories about VW's but I have heard the same about LR's, but my current '91 RRC has been no more expensive to maintain than my FJ62 or my 100 series LC. I dunno, the 200 LC is damn tough to beat. It's not perfect, but, it is a very good choice when looked at as a whole !!

All good points. Thinking of replacing my wife's GX and letting her drive my current LC (if she will agree). Just don't see the GX as a long term vehicle in our family and we usually keep our cars for the long haul. Problem is what do I get. The only vehicle I am really interested in is another LC and I keep gravitating towards the 200. Sure its not the most sporty vehicle in the world and has been more Toyotaized than ever in the new design, but its hard to beat the heritage, reliability and features that it currently offers. I feel like it offers all the comfort features of say a jacked up 4WD LS 460 without all the baggage associated with Lexus, Porsche, BMW, etc. I dunno either, but life is too short to be sitting on the sidelines. Hard to go wrong with Toyota, others will come and go, but there will always be the LC. Sorry to hijack, but hope this helps the original poster.

No one mentioned it but as far as the LX goes, I was really looking forward to the new LX...Then I saw it. Two words...NO THANKS !! The new LX is obviously being marketed to the Escalade, Navigator, QX56 crowd. That's all good and fine, but it is just not my cup of tea. Woops, sorry for the mini-hijack :o !!

Back to the topic..Here is a point. Go sit in a new LC and then get in the X5...I will bet you will notice the extra bit of room the LC offers..Especially the headroom. The extra headroom really gives off the sensation of the vehicle being "bigger". I've said this before but I will repeat..It is much easier to go from a smaller vehicle to a bigger one than vice versa..At least I have noticed that from my own personal experiences. Everyone is different tho...:D

You're not going to find a lift kit for a BMW. ;)
LandCruisers have a off/onroad SUV pedigree. BMWs, airplanes.
Besides, the Land Cruiser will last longer.

my wife's ride is an 08 x5 and there is no comparison to the lc/lx 200 series. not to cause an arguement but these are 2 different vehicles both are great but i would never consider the x5 an off roader

I think we can then all agree the LC is in a class by itself :)

This being a LC forum, I shall refrain from stirring the pot ... They are very good vehicles, I will agree on that point !!

Lest we don't forget the 4Runner though !!! :bang:

Trust me, I totally understand what you are saying and I agree with you. If someone offered me a bugatti vs an LC....let me say that I would be coming home VERY FAST! :D

That route (sport cars, etc..)never even entered my mind.. However, now that you brought it up...I would still take a McLaren F1 over the Bug !! :grinpimp:

For that kind of money I would personally rather have a classic 60's era Ferrari or Gullwing Coupe ..I remember my dad having the chance to buy a GW in Austin back in the early '80s for something like $35,000...Before the mkt went nuts..He could kick himself for not getting it !! :bang::bang::bang:

CHAT !!!!

Ok, now we are wayyy off topic. :o

I remember my dad had a 1964 2 seat convertible Mercedes. I don't remember the model, but I loved it.....but I did get in trouble when he caught me driving it around the block when he came home from work early one day....

Last time I ever drove it :crybaby::crybaby:

Back on topic, how do we get a 5.7 liter LC to sound like a Cayenne GTS?
