6 cylinder diesel...I've got blue smoke when I start...lasts about 10minutes then it clears.
Oil in the combustion chamber? Leaking gaskets? Seals or rings?
I feel like I'm looking at a costly solution...any advice?

Injection timing is off?
Weepy injector nozzles?
I'm assuming they injectors use a pop off valve, that could be tired?
Valves that aren't sealing from carbon build up?

I'm throwing out mostly random thoughts here....

Most mechanically injected diesels need to warm up to run well.

There is a diesel forum as well.

Id think valve seals are weeping a bit of oil.
You might also want to check your glow plugs and timer though - if some aren't heating up then you can get a good puff of smoke at start up - normally white though.
Do you use the glow timer or a Wilson switch? The timer keeps them glowing at a lower power after starting (if its still working after 45 years).
If you have an oil bath air filter then maybe check the level isn't too high.

Thanks...I've got glow plugs. All new. No oil bath air filter.
I'm thinking valve seals are the issue.

Sounds like it.
Worth checking the voltage on the glow plug bus bar during preheat, and after starting tho.
Common mistake to fit the wrong voltage plugs too, so maybe double check they're right if you didn't already
