Blown Head Gasket need input (1 Viewer)

I blew a head gasket driving back from BC, with a spare 3B in the back for my 60. It pressurized my coolant system and drained out my coolant. Lucky for me I was able to limp it home. I wasn't burning coolant, or oil and I didn't have coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant. I'm trying to figure out what could have blown the head gasket, the cruiser has 113,000km on it, it's the last gene of 3B. I'm thinking it could have been a sticky injector that created a hot spot. The kicker is I bought the cruiser 2 days before, a sweet 1988 BJ70 RHD 5 speed, PTO winch with 113,000km and payed 6k for it. Im looking for input at what might have caused the head gasket to blow and what to check for because i really don't want to hurt this baby.

I have never heard the 3B referred to as a "time bomb."

I'm always dubious when I hear a car is newly bought, and almost immediately something near-cataclysmic happens - the cynic in me makes me think that a problem has already occured, and some 'quick fix' solution has been used to paper over the cracks.

Have you removed the head yet?

I have a good friend who runs an old Landie, its on its second chassis, third or maybe fourth engine, third respray and he's got a permanent bad back - he also mocks my 20 year old 78 as a timebomb....he keeps telling me it'll all go wrong, yesterday he told me that whilst fixing his rear diff.

Haven't cracked it open yet to have a look, going to do that this weekend, order a new head gasket (genuine toyota of course)

Could it have been a faulty rad cap that caused the system to over-pressurise thus leading to problem with gasket, rather than the other way round?

If the system was def over-pressured I would think a new rad cap as a precaution may be a good idea.
