just wondering if anyone has installed or has a factory block heater, I was alsowondering if it is possible to buy one and put it on. It gets pretty cold hear, I am sure the old girl won't have any problems starting, but I like the idea of it being pretty much warm.

I just replaced my heater 2 months ago when it died. It was harder to get the old one out than the new one in. about a half hour job and then replacing fluid of course. got mine at the dealer for $28 can

works like a charm

Goes in the last frostplug on the drivers side(LHD)

depends on the model and year of your truck. i use napa block heaters in the 4 cyl diesels B,2B,3B,13BT,2LT and i use a lower rad hose heater on the 6 cyl diesels 2H,12HT
i have had great success with these.
let me know what you are driving and i will forward the part numbers.

My HJ60 had like two or three of them. Block, rad, and like power steering I think. Does my HZ have a factory block heater? Funny I need to ask that, but she's not in my posession yet.


I LOVE how my VW TDI starts so much easier when she's plugged in. I want to do the same with my HZ.

Wayne, what are you plugging in? Is there a factory block heater on the thing?

Or are you using an oil pan heater?

nope on this one i ran a lower rad hose heater, really works good, when i remember to plug it is...

Can you leave it pluged in all the time?

Any pics would be greatly apprecited, so did you just get that heater from NAPA?

I think an oil pan heater would be a really good idea too.

I have a rad hose heater... I'll post a pics tonight

you cut an inch out of the lower rad hose and insert. too easy. for ease of clean up go buy a huge long short walled plastic tray (i got mine from wally mart) and all the antifreeze is caught as you cut the hose. makes the job real easy and fast.

try Parts Source, used to be Bumper to Bumper, Parts Unlimited, Canadian Tire (not where you are but Rob could pick it up) almost all automotive shops should carry them. get a good quality unit and they will last a long time...

it circulates by convection, it works very well...
i have never had a problem starting with the lower rad heater but it depends where you live and what type of oil you use int he winter as to wether i would recommend the oil pan heater...
i have never used one, i have bought trucks with them on but never used it...
