bling,bling cooper STT's and lift

Just finished lifting the 96' lx-450 last week, OME heavies front (850's) mediums rear (860's) with blue bushing's It gave me 2 and half inch front 3 and half rear. Its a little stink buggy but I had taken out 2nd and 3rd row seats, hitch, running boards ect. Will be loosing GOLDEN bumpers soon, so I can start making my own, rear first then front.

Today I picked up 285/75/16 cooper STT's and they drive very good on street. They sit just A tad over 32 inch's on. This weekend they be up in sierra nevada's on A hunting trip, that will be the real test on how they do.

X2 on the coopers. I love them and have zero complaints so far. I'm surprised more people don't run them for the price.

Very nice! Where did you buy your Coopers? Do the coopers wear better than a BFG MT? Or do they cup like any MT does?

I've been running the Coopers for 2 years. They run OK on the street, noisier than BFG Muds. They grip rocks like mad but also leave a lot of rubber behind. I've got pretty serious chunking after 2 years. I've also tore 2 sidewalls.

I love the way they work offroad, but will probably get something else next time.

luv24by, ive had many sets of bfg mud terrains(33's and 35's on a lifted 85 toy)they did ok ,but I was ready for a change so I went with STT's...much better!

Had a couple sets of STT's when I used to sell them. I was surprised at how well they did in the rocks and mud. They do start to sing after a while and as MaddBaggins remarked, they will chunk on you if you get in the rocks.

I picked these tire for running the deep sierra snow (or sierra cement) I like the deep open lugs and siping... and looks like a good mud tire as well. In the wet snow I will be running the pressure down to 5 PSI per tire, mabey 3 PSI if they can take it without popping a bead. When we get a foot or more of snow Ill will give an update on the STT's performance.

I used to have a set of the original BFG MT's and some BFG AT's (both 35's) but they were on a different vehicle so I can't compare road noise. So far it seems like the SST's are winning hands down in the longevity race, I have about 20K on mine and they don't seem to even be 1/2 way worn down, but I am rotating a 5th tire in. I have not been on a lot of rock so far, so mine have not had any chunking.

Does anybody have an estimate on how long these sst's last?


BTW, how does she ride/handle on the OME heavies in the front without any extra weight in the front? I'm thinking I might move up to heavies in the front. I'm not sure if the s/c counts as extra weight though, and a bumper is definitely a few years out.

Hey Nicholas,Its ride better than the stock springs, even without any after market bolt on's. It doent feel stiff ,just a little more solid.
Being lifted with bigger tires it has a little more sway than stock but still handle's well on street...no complaints

If you go with heavys you might want to go with the blue bushings to keep caster correct...I did and it steers like original..slee recomends the blue's without weight.

That's good to hear. I have a set of OME CC's but I have not installed them. Mine doesn't feel darty but you can tell it's not stock.

If I ever see a set of Heavy front's for a good price I might have to pick them up.

All of the front OME springs (except comp) have the same spring rate, changing to heavies will give little benefit. If you want it a bit taller, add the "in with the coils" type spacers, this will net the same result. Pretty much the only difference between the 851's and 850's is the 850's are ~3/4" taller.

If you want it a bit taller, add the "in with the coils" type spacers, this will net the same result. Pretty much the only difference between the 851's and 850's is the 850's are ~3/4" taller.

Thanks Kevin, I had read Romer's thread about that several months ago, but I keep hearing people say that it is a rough ride with heavies and no weight.

I already have some OME yellow bushings and an LT template but I have been waiting to install them because I might end up needing slee's 3* in the end after I am satisfied with the front Height.

maybe in the rear .. but in the front it's the same between L and 850 plain coils ..

I am running the yellow bushings, heavy 2.5" in the rear and the meduim 2.5" in the front, I wish I went 3" in the rear, 33" Geolanders. Works well but the tires are taking a beeting.
