hey everyone just bought a 1976 landcruiser did a tune up(plugs, wires, points, cap, roter, oil,) all that fun stuff took it out for a day pf wheeling and blew the motor:frown: so now i need to get it back on the road as soon as possilbe im strongly leaning toward a chevy 350 i got one of our new race motors in the garage bout 540HP but i dont have the cash to build the driveline to withstand it im 16 so my budgets pretty low so right now i just wanna get a stock 350 something with not alot of power and use my stock 4 speed and t case for now just kinda wondering whats the quickest cheapest way to do its just to get it back on the road for now any help is much appreciated thanxs

Put a 2F back in it. You can get a good used 2F cheaper than the adapters, radiator, etc. to put a 350 in it.

yea i guess thats the best thing to do has anyone put high comp pistons or anyhting in a 2F to see what kinda power you get outta it?

What do you mean, blew it?

#2 piston cracked in half havnt looked at bottom end yet so i unno how bad it is down there

In case the looks didn't give it away, the 40 is not a race car. Most folks like the low end torque of the 2F and add gearing rather than displacement to gain trail performance. Milling the head on my 2F was the best performance improvement for me.

yea thats what i thought this thing see lots of pavement as well its my DD im wheel it alot but i dont really wanna go to low of a gear ratio

A Good 2F rocks for low down torque you won't go wrong.

I have one just to suit for sale.

Go with a Toy Box or Orion and you won't suffer on the highway.

Sorry to hear about your luck, I have a 1970 that suffered the same fate. You may be able to put a little work into the 2f and get it running while you look for a better engine. I lost a rod at about 70mph in my first 40 and went the rout of a V8, I thought that the conversion would have been cheaper than a rebuild turns out it was not. You should be able to find an engine in good running condition for about 1000 or less. Price out all the parts needed for a V8 engine, exhaust, radiator, adapters, and a welder to weld the mounts on, then price out a rebuilt 2F and see were you end up. Unless you are a very good welder and mechanic the conversion will not be right and will give you problems. Some on this sit will say go for it, and if that is what you really want then by all means do it jut make sure you have done all the research so you know what you are about to undertake.

Good Luck,

how much$$

Quality is not cheap you can have my old Warm 2F rebuilt 4 years ago and fully maintained and serviced since for $2000AUS

I agree with flash a V8 conversion soon adds up in costs. Usually around the 10,000 mark done properly.

Where are you located? A good used 2F should be easy to find.

Victoria B.C. i gotta buddy that build are race motors at the machine shop so i might just bored it over and rebuild the 2f i have to see what the price is gonna be

I'm parting out a 2f. It's mostly shot, but the rods are probably good and it has a low-mileage Isky cam.

I've got a (partly) disassembled '82 2F in my garage that's supposed to have about 20K on a full rebuild. I had high plans for it, but I haven't done anything to it in the 4 years I've had it. Block/bottom end are still together, and the cylinder bores that are visible still show crosshatching. The guy I got it from 'tinkered' with it I think - that's why it's in pieces. Some of the accessories are missing, but the block itself should be a bolt-in for you if you re-use your carb & accessories.

It would be a day trip, but I'm within driving distance if you're interested.

Eric

If it wasn't on the other side of the world I would be interested - supprised you want to sell it.

Thought about keeping it just incase and may do yet. But always open to offers.
