Well I have been reading all the post on the HGs so I thought for $20 bucks I could come closer to finding out how my LC is doing. I am trying to figure out if I need to go ahead and get the HG replaced before any more mods or I should be OK for a year or two. This is the report for my 1996 LX450 with 126,000 and counting.

All looked fine except:

sodium - 89
Lead - 5

Lead and sodium both read somewhat high in this sample. The sodium is troubling and may show anti-freeze. This is something you will want to watch. It may be affecting the bearings which could be why the lead read mildly high. All other wear looks great, showing no major problems.

Here are the rest of the numbers:

ALUM 2
CHR 0
IRON 5
COPP 0
LEAD 5
TIN 0
MOLY 72
--
BORON 18
SILICON 7
SODIUM 89
CALCIUM 1101
MAGNESUM 8
PHOSPHORUS 457
ZINC 487
BARIUM 2

So should I start pricing HG replacment :crybaby: or am I really for more mods :D? Any input would be great.

thanks

After comparing to others posted numbers , I dont look bad at all. I am not as clean as some but I have no detected water so thats good.
Feed back .... someone !

I would pull the plugs and compare, if thier apearance in uneven looking, such as number 6 being a lot cleaner then it could indicate HG problems,

do the bubble test.

any condensation under the oil cap?

any odd smalls, steam or smoke in the exhaust?

are you loosing coolant?

What oil were you using?

any condensation under the oil cap?
=I will check this. They didnt find any water in the sample

any odd smalls, steam or smoke in the exhaust?
- a little smoke but once the engine warms up none.

are you loosing coolant?
- NO, not that I can tell.

What oil were you using?
I had it changed at the stealer ship, so I am not 100% sure

thanks. I guess I should at least set the money a side for the HG anyway.

morning smoke in an ATL summer? mine makes clouds of steam in the winter but not a puff in the summer, I am abotu 45 miles south west of ATL so same conditions, that is kinda odd but could just be oil, can you tell if it is steam or smoke? white blue or black?

put a stripe of scotch tape on the resiviour and mark the cold level on the tape with a sharpie in the morning after sitting all night, compare every few days under the same conditions. see if it drops any.

do the bubble test and check the cap, plug check would be good also.
