I am not a big fan of gold or shiny chrome so I plastidipped what I could in Anthracite.
I also did the grill. I really love how this turned out. It doubles as a protective barrier for the grille
I don't have a pic of it, but I went back and did the entire panel that holds the rear license plate. I like how it sort of matches the front og the vehicle.
The process is easy. Have fun with it.
Yes I guess you could just leave the cladding on and spray. I would plastic dip first because it's cheap and DIY. I can just peel off if I didn't like it and paint it if I wanted to double down on the durability. But in this case thinking a monstaliner would be a better option for durability (?).I'm considering doing the cladding as well (did my badges and grill already), since the grill application worked so well. Though I'm no authority, what I've read about removing the cladding suggests that it's a bad idea. Many little clips to release, some of which will inevitably break. And since the Plastidip peals off of paint easily you shouldn't need to take the cladding off. My only question is to those who have painted instead of dipping- did you feel like it would be a more durable treatment?
Same boat! I believe our color is properly called "Cashmere Beige Metallic". Whatever. My main concern with just plasti dip my rims and emblems is creating a clashing disaster up against the dull cladding and bumpers.Anyone dip the cladding? Thinking anthracite all around. Emblems, grill and cladding on my
Tan/champagne LX 470. Anyone tried this have a removal/install process? What's the deal to remove the cladding clips?
Any cha
Any chance you could take a picture with the entire license plate area completed?
Am I the only one wondering how TF you hit a boat propeller?I didn’t love the color of Anthracite Plastidip on my 99 so I painted over the Palsti with silver spray paint, which isn’t recommended, but it heald up really well...until it hit a boat propeller. Frustratingly, the 99 is going in for its 3rd grill next week.View attachment 1852579View attachment 1852581

Cleaned it very thoroughly with dish soap, rinsed even more thoroughly, sun dried (24 hours) and go to town. It isn’t the toughest coating on plastic chrome, so roughing plastic chrome up might help for the long term? What kind of prep (if any) are y’all doing before dipping the grill?
Covered the stock chrome on my 2006 LX470 grille with anthracite plasti-dip this past weekend. Pleased with the initial results, but worried about my ability to scrub bugs & road debris without removing the plasti-dip coating once the grill gets dirty.

Did you ever pull the trigger on this mod? If so can you post some Pics please. I'm seriously thinking about doing it to my LX. I have 2018 Anthracite Grey LC wheels, yy thought is to match the grill to the color of the wheels.View attachment 1710616 View attachment 1710615 View attachment 1710614 Ok couldn’t wait so I went ahead and did some photoshopping for options. You didn’t ask me, but: my emblems held up great. Grill got battered within the year and started looking like crap, so I stripped it off and painted it. Looks better, and seems to be holding up better.Considering doing this for my recently purchased '05. How's it holding up?
