I have decided that I am going to part with my restored, LHD 1985 BJ74.

I purchased this cruiser from another MUD member a few years back, with full intention of converting it to LHD and restoring it. I decided that the conversion should be done precisely as it would have been from the factory. I used an identical year BJ70 LHD for parts for the conversion.

Currently has 205,000 KM (125,000 miles) on it, so I have put about 7,000 KM (4,200 miles) on it. I have been getting 21-22 MPG---I did get 26 MPG on a road trip. Drives really nice down the road, everything works perfectly. Starts right up every time. Factory glow system works great. Runs 60 PSI oil pressure when warmed up, 40 PSI at idle. I have not done a compression test. EGT about 800 on the road and 8 PSI boost. I have installed a waste gate boost controller under the hood. Current max boost is set at 14, but I have only gotten there once on a full throttle run, for testing. I have never taken it off road, or in the winter since restoration.

You can read the entire process in the build thread, so I won’t go into details here except to summarize a few of the extras.

I will post some pics, but more can be seen at the following link:

I upgraded a few items:

ARB front bumper modified to work with the factory PTO winch. Custom built 3/16 skid plate to protect the winch. Southeast Overland winch rope. JDM land cruiser yellow fog lights

Complete Ironman suspension with greasable anti inversion shackles.

Added FRP flares, imported from down under.

Replaced all foam seals in the complete heating system, and all the vents

Powdercoated frame Wheel housings and all exhaust shields. I powdercoated everything I could.

New OEM Windshield glass and all new OEM seals on all glass.

Underhood hardware yellow zinc plated. Repainted engine and everything under the hood. Take a look at the engine in the build thread. Put a new OEM water pump and a new starter on the motor. Rebuilt the injectors. New belts, hoses and all vacuum lines. Needed nothing else.

All rewiring was done under hood and under the seats , nothing under the dash. This was done to make it easily serviced. Fuse box was moved to the correct place in the left kick panel. Wire splices were soldered, taped and heat shrink applied. All wires were placed in split looms.

Redarc 24V to 12V Tail light converted with 7 pin connector

Interior was completely covered with dynomat sound deadening. Seats are the original, and the interior is in real nice shape. The only thing I replaced was the door panels—custom made vinyl similar to the original pattern, headliner, and the outside of the right front seat, as the vinyl had a crack.

ISSPRO EGT, Boost and Oil Pressure gauges

New Factory Air conditioning condenser added for the LHD

Fluid Film applied to the inside of all body panels.

All doors shut perfect, door, hood and fender gaps are all perfect. Not an air leak or rattle anywhere.

Many, many new OEM parts installed in the restoration. Too many to list! If I could get it new from the OEM, I got it!

Price is $35,000, best offer/trade. I am willing to take trades also. Specifically, I am looking for a nice, 100% rust free 81-83 Mini truck with 5 Speed and AC. Would prefer mostly stock as it will be a driver. I would consider GM classic car. Specifically looking for a 1961 Impala Bubble top, but others would be considered--- Lexus RX350. Last and least, I would consider a (lord, forgive me for my transgressions)—2 or 4 door jeep. Must be auto trans, mostly stock. Please hold your sarcasm, as it is for a relative. Fairly open on trades, so let me know what you have

I have clear Minnesota title in my name.

Feel free to ask any questions—PM is best, or post away for general questions

Anybody familiar with these lockouts? They are on the 68 FJ40 I am parting out

I have seen those before. I had a similar set on an ancient Jeep about 35 years ago. I want to say Selectro made a set like that and I think very early Warns were similar. The set on the heep had a slot in them that facilitated turning with a shovel blade.

Funny. These turn really easy

The ones on the old Heep would when they were warm. At other times, they were a biatch. We kept a piece of angle iron in the rig as a hub tool

As a BJ74 owner, this will be interesting to watch.

Agreed. Any "premium" 7X sales has an impact on my net worth.... Restorations, resto-mods, very low mileage, unique configurations, etc. are all of interest. I am sure @Shes Mad had good reasons for his sale/pricing but that was the one that got away, I think, for some of us.

I don't have a problem with someone making a profit after buying a rig "right" but too much appreciation, too quickly, can screw up the market. Slow and steady wins the race..... :)

I'm OK with this sale. He didn't buy it to flip it, or it would have been for sale a while ago. Circumstances change, I hope he gets his asking price! Good for those like Ward and Charlie, and many others that own them!

As they say "a rising tide raises all boats" and the asking price is definitely high tide. :)

$30ish was a good price. $40ish is probably still less than what it would cost, but cost and worth are not always equal. $50+ ebay price is ridiculous.

I don't see how a rare LHD one affects the value of the common RHD ones much, as a buyer.
