I have decided that I am going to part with my restored, LHD 1985 BJ74.

I purchased this cruiser from another MUD member a few years back, with full intention of converting it to LHD and restoring it. I decided that the conversion should be done precisely as it would have been from the factory. I used an identical year BJ70 LHD for parts for the conversion.

Currently has 205,000 KM (125,000 miles) on it, so I have put about 7,000 KM (4,200 miles) on it. I have been getting 21-22 MPG---I did get 26 MPG on a road trip. Drives really nice down the road, everything works perfectly. Starts right up every time. Factory glow system works great. Runs 60 PSI oil pressure when warmed up, 40 PSI at idle. I have not done a compression test. EGT about 800 on the road and 8 PSI boost. I have installed a waste gate boost controller under the hood. Current max boost is set at 14, but I have only gotten there once on a full throttle run, for testing. I have never taken it off road, or in the winter since restoration.

You can read the entire process in the build thread, so I won’t go into details here except to summarize a few of the extras.

I will post some pics, but more can be seen at the following link:

I upgraded a few items:

ARB front bumper modified to work with the factory PTO winch. Custom built 3/16 skid plate to protect the winch. Southeast Overland winch rope. JDM land cruiser yellow fog lights

Complete Ironman suspension with greasable anti inversion shackles.

Added FRP flares, imported from down under.

Replaced all foam seals in the complete heating system, and all the vents

Powdercoated frame Wheel housings and all exhaust shields. I powdercoated everything I could.

New OEM Windshield glass and all new OEM seals on all glass.

Underhood hardware yellow zinc plated. Repainted engine and everything under the hood. Take a look at the engine in the build thread. Put a new OEM water pump and a new starter on the motor. Rebuilt the injectors. New belts, hoses and all vacuum lines. Needed nothing else.

All rewiring was done under hood and under the seats , nothing under the dash. This was done to make it easily serviced. Fuse box was moved to the correct place in the left kick panel. Wire splices were soldered, taped and heat shrink applied. All wires were placed in split looms.

Redarc 24V to 12V Tail light converted with 7 pin connector

Interior was completely covered with dynomat sound deadening. Seats are the original, and the interior is in real nice shape. The only thing I replaced was the door panels—custom made vinyl similar to the original pattern, headliner, and the outside of the right front seat, as the vinyl had a crack.

ISSPRO EGT, Boost and Oil Pressure gauges

New Factory Air conditioning condenser added for the LHD

Fluid Film applied to the inside of all body panels.

All doors shut perfect, door, hood and fender gaps are all perfect. Not an air leak or rattle anywhere.

Many, many new OEM parts installed in the restoration. Too many to list! If I could get it new from the OEM, I got it!

Price is $35,000, best offer/trade. I am willing to take trades also. Specifically, I am looking for a nice, 100% rust free 81-83 Mini truck with 5 Speed and AC. Would prefer mostly stock as it will be a driver. I would consider GM classic car. Specifically looking for a 1961 Impala Bubble top, but others would be considered--- Lexus RX350. Last and least, I would consider a (lord, forgive me for my transgressions)—2 or 4 door jeep. Must be auto trans, mostly stock. Please hold your sarcasm, as it is for a relative. Fairly open on trades, so let me know what you have

I have clear Minnesota title in my name.

Feel free to ask any questions—PM is best, or post away for general questions

I don't see how a rare LHD one affects the value of the common RHD ones much, as a buyer.

My theory, which is basically worthless....
A good BJ74 (no rust, low mileage, and worthwhile accessories) will command a good price regardless of steering wheel placement. While some good ones are being imported, a greater number of "not so good ones" are showing up in the U.S. so the "market" is somewhat hard to judge.

Jack up the price without doing any work is kind of rotten in my books :-(
there was a lot that was done to this truck after the purchase, so please don't assume. The original build was done well, however, with all builds you find things that need attention and need to be corrected or updated. There was another 8K or more put back into the truck, easily. As she sits now it is an epic truck. Yes, situations do change and I decided to sell the 74 as apposed to my 40 basically due to the fact i can't and wouldn't drive either in the winter.
I ended up buying a 200 series for my all around truck because the 74 is a bit tight for me, two boys and german shepherd going camping. I don't have to sell this one but I think it belongs in a good home that it will fit better in. I'm just looking to recoup my money into and if i can't then i'll just keep it.

one more thing. why would any of you judge me if i get the asking price, especially those of you who own a 74. It only increases the value in your own trucks.

also, im not opposed to offers, especially from the community.

I'd be curious to know what all you spent $8k on.
Tires (5)
OEM wheels (5)
24v voltmeters, rebuilt Alt (OEM from Japan)
rewiring electrical (15+ hours)
two new optimum batteries
new hand throttle (OEM from Japan)
rebuilt AC compressor, recharge system
new radio, speakers, rewired as the wiring was not correct
shim and reclock pulles
retune engine
rewire cooling/heating as it was sucking air instead of blowing.
retorque all bolts underneath. was leaking oil like a siv.

there is more but it's all i can remember without looking at receipts. Listen, the truck is awesome and built very well however some things needed to be done. This was my DD then and finding and waiting on parts that are only available from Japan ate up quite a bit of time and renting cars became annoying. The truck has been driven enough for the bugs of a new build to rear their head and all have been taken care of.
I described above my reasoning for selling and now I have a different DD. Like i said, if i sell it i sell it, if not so be it. I think the price on EP is a fair for what the truck is and condition it is. I definitely never bought it to flip

Kinda like owning a boat........:)

He did indeed and as you discovered it sometimes takes a set of fresh eyes to dot the"i"s and cross the "t"s. Been there myself.

I do like it more with the steel wheels you added. Too bad they are not the 80 Series fatties tho.....;)

I was procrastinating on buying it before you bought it, but had an agreed-upon price with the OP. I had negotiated what I thought was a fair price. I don't see how your $8k of maintenance equates to $16k of added value. Good luck with the sale.
your math is awful. Rodgers price was more than fair. obviously you undervalued the vehicle, which is why you didn't get it and I did.

That thing is a showpiece. If I were an Arab sheik, I'd buy it for a $100K and have it silver plated...

Nope. I have a degree in math. I left it deliberately vague because of your sale. If you want a math proof, that can be arranged.

Again, nope. I didn't get it because even at my lower negotiated price, I wasn't 100% sure it was worth it, so I was procrastinating.

I was worried I'd have to put in another $8k and I knew I'd never get more than the original sale price.
You're basing your math on your lowball bid to roger. That's bad math, degree or no degree.

Must be great to live back in those places where you can only drive your nice, cool vehicles for 1/3 of the year...if you're lucky. I'll take the occasional drought, earthquake and dirty hippie over that bull**** any day of the week. Hopefully someone out west gives this vehicle the good life it deserves.

OK, so I try to stay out of the 70 section for good reason, I want one.

So today opened this thread at page 1........as I was reading I recalled the build a bit, see I want a LHD 70........get to the bottom of the page and I am thinking.......yeah I may try to buy this

then I notice that its 6 pages long....seems odd in the classifieds, so I go to the end... bummer....really not interested anymore even at the same price.

maybe the part that irks me the most is, people(current seller) that is so damn lazy that they use pics from the guy they bought it off of in their add.

extra points for.....linking to the PO's build thread on Mud

maybe I can live with RHD after-all.........

hey thanks for your post about not being interested anymore, since you never expressed interest in the first place.....quality post right there.

im not trying to hide anything with regards to the truck, which is why i posted the build thread. Why is this an issue? should I disassemble the truck again and rebuild it so i can take my own pictures? Roger did a great job and there is no reason to not show the build.
As far as taking my own current pictures, you are right, I should have. I did have a few updated pictures on eBay (you'll see the rims and tires are different), however, I should have taken my own pictures. I will do this now that I am back from traveling for work......or as you call it, being lazy.

and, you should get a RDH, no reason to be lazy and not learn to drive something different.
