Just to clarify though, when we say "2 tubes per empty birf," we are referring to the 4 oz. tube and not the ~15oz cylinder that fits a grease gun.

I just did mine and used Valoline Paladium (15 oz cylinder). I weighed the grease gun a food scale a few times during filling to know when I got to about 8oz added to the housing. Everything inside was prepacked (birfs with Paladium, bearings with red bearing grease)
 
2 of the 15oz per side total which includes what you pre-pack into the birfield.

It sounds like you need to add more. It's not exact science so there is no need to measure on a scale. Run it for a few days and then use the zip tie method to check the level.
 
The manual says to fill knuckle about 1/2 to 3/4 full of grease. 8 oz is not enough.
