Riley's observation is pretty accurate. What I find interesting about trunion pre-load is as follows:
I replaced my front axle housing a while back and I re-assembled it with new trunion bearings and my original shims.
Logic dictates that a different housing + new bearings = different shims.........
Mine was dead on for preload ??? I am still scratching my head over that because I find it hard to believe that Toyota can hold manufacturing tollerances that close. That being said, I still think that it is important to check the preload. They provide a spec for a reason....
