Hi all, my lj70 planning to 2" lift and wanted to use bilstein b8 for it. Is there any lj70 owner been using that or any compatible model can use in lj70?

Thanks for reading

I run them, I like them. But not for sale / readily available in N. America. I had to ship from Germany. Can’t speak about availability in Malaysia. I can post part numbers if you are really interested.

hi Dprio34, thanks for reply. yes, i would like to know the part number. is you order it from ebay or amazon? if can i would like to know the seller too.

Thank you

Here are the part numbers for the rear shocks and vendor. Note, there are there are two different style shocks in the rear for 1989 and prior LJ70s.

@Rocky Chai , Not sure what happened to the A pillar on these LJ70s, but I had rust in the exact same spot. Very strange since the rest of the vehicle is damn near rust free.

Will post front shock #s, when I get home from a trip.

hi @Dprio34 , i have found those model but i wondering is it ok with 2" lift because from the specification is written use with stock spring. also the picture displayed is not the exact absorber because i checked mine and it supposed to be pin+eye on left and eye+eye on right.

those are the part can see rusted. when i open remove the seat, this is how its look like
the rusted part is passenger side

Wow, @Rocky Chai , I would definitely take care of that rust prior to doing a lift.
I personally would try talking you out of a lift, since the stock suspension can easily handle 33” tires.

If you go bigger 33”, that 90 HP engine is really gonna be working hard.

Not try to tell you what to do, only you know the intended use of the vehicle, but I would really consider the age and capability of the first gen 2LT engine first.

Both Dobinson and OME make/sell 2” spring - shock combos if you are really sold on the lift.
Dobinson also sells the caster bushings with their kit, if you are really intent on doing it.

@Dprio34, the rusty pic was old one. I already fix it and now I'm think to use dobinson 2" lift spring with bilstein b8. But seems like I can't find any model that fit my car so I come to forum for advice. I also got some advice that max tyre size to use is 33" cause mine was 2lt manual 4 transmission. Car can't go fast but in offroad the torque would be OK to drive. I got a friend driving Toyota Hilux with bilstein b6 and he lift around 1.5" and the shock still running good so far, he already been to a few offroad trip with that shock. @Dprio34 ur car got lift?

@Rocky Chai I do not have a lift, but the Dobinson "stock" height springs I have get me where I need to go as far as clearance goes.

The Dobinsons, shouldl put you slightly higher from what you currently have, since your stock springs have most likely sagged.

Just to give you a ballpark idea, with 31.5” tires, the top of the wheel well will sit at 36” with these springs and tire combination.

Also regarding the 2” lift, if you decide to go that route, you most likely will not have a problem with damaging the stock height shocks with that mild lift, but only you can judge if it is worth taking the chance.

base on my research from online, more of ppl lift it with no problem. im still considering. cause in the future i will install roll-cage for my car and with that weight , my 2" lift will go to 1.5 or 1".

just check with some dealer in my area, seems like it is not easy to get bilstein here, but there is OME shocks available for LJ70. i did check with a friend driving LJ70 with bilstein subtank shock. that time he got tax 35% for importing it and it was 2 or 3 years back.. that custom tax is crazy. @Dprio34 did you been charged by buying the shock from ebay?

I don't recall getting charged import duty on that particular purchase on the Bilsteins.
But I have been charged duty in the USA for purchases from England (intercooler & radiator) for another vehicle.
I had to pay UPS prior to delivery. It was roughly 10-15% of the purchase price.

When I lived in another country, yes the customs duty was crazy...More than 35%.

I don't believe the seller will charge you duty, it just depends on how coordinated your government is with the shipper/courier. (DHL, UPS, FedEx, TNT) TNT being most criminal in my experience. The first 3 have always been top notch and honest with shipping overseas with me.

Again, I've never had a vendor/seller charge me duty. It has alway been the government in question mandating the charge via the courier prior to delivery / release to me.

@FullyLitLED , Sorry for the delay, I was wrestling with my side window install.

This is what I came up with on suspension numbers when I did my upgrade from stock springs and shocks.
This applies to 1989 LJ70s, not 1990 and forward.

Toyota Stock Front Springs: 48131-60040; -60070
Toyota Stock Rear Springs: 48231-60012

Dobinson Springs Stock Height Front C59-084 & Rear C59-085

Bilstein Front Shocks: 24-010337

Bilstein Rear Shocks: 24-011877, 24-011884

Front OME Shocks: N114 (stock height) 60094 (lifted)

Front Old Man Emu Springs (40mm lift): OME 2870

Rear Old Man Emu Springs (50mm): OME 2871

Hope that helps.
Don
