Bilstein 6112 Dilemma on GX470...not as low cost as I thought (2 Viewers)

Gotcha. I presently am still running my bilstein 5100s with Moog 81108 springs which allegedly are 650 ish lb/in so I am right there too. My current setup isn't bad by any means but upgrades get you looking further and further down the rabbit hole. My only beef is that I still get some brake dive and body roll that I was hoping to have minimized more than I did. I guess I'm spoiled by my Miata and big ole suv's will just have lots of body roll and brake dive no matter what.

I've been leaning more toward Dobinson just due to proximity since they are a few miles away from me.

Either way, I think for the time being I gave up on shock upgrades for now and will enjoy what I have and reassess down the road.
@andymmiami

Late to the game on this thread.

Did you get any lift from the Moog coil length or use the preload setting on your 5100?
thanks

I’m having the same issue and came to Ih8mud to see what I should do. Grateful for the community posting all this information. I also only have 50k on my 6112s with maybe two times out wheeling fairly easy stuff and both shocks are leaking. So I’ll probably go with the 700# as well since I have a roof top tent and a hidden winch I haven’t put on yet. The 600# coil rate with the RTT definitely had a noticeable brake dive. @HomersCanyonero do you have a part number for the 700# springs with the 6112 as a kit? I’ve called toytec and they think it might be a separate sku where I might have to get the 600# that comes in the kit and the 700#. I don’t really want to do that and wanted to see how you handled it

Edit: found the part number. For anyone interested part number is 47-311190 but it seems like it will be 750-800#. The seller is getting me exact numbers from Bilstein

From the seller: Fitment Note : Provides 1.7-3.2" Front LiftFor 150-200 lbs additional front weight, Requires use of 2X Toyota Upper Shock Mount Assy 48609-60100, B8 6112,

E4-FD1-Y005B46 are the 700lb springs, it’s kit 47-311190. Bilstein def doesn’t describe their kits well at all. And you’ll want those top hats they are taller than the stock 470. I just installed 6112s I’m a little bummed they are leaking at 50k I’ll have to keep my fingers crossed

Thanks for bringing up reliability. Now you have me thinking…back in 2006 when I put basic OME shocks and springs on the 80…those puppies have lasted over 100k miles.

I think that was too much to expect from the Bilstein 6112s and I hate the notion of rebuilding every 30k. Arghhh.
The Ironman FCPs likely have a leg up on everything else regarding longevity since you can rebuild them at home without special tools or pressurization. Though I have also seen people of the internet getting very long service intervals out of a few different monotube options like Dobinsons or the Apache AX2. I have like 25k on my Dobinsons MRRs and they are still going strong. I am hoping for a 50k service interval but I am also not easy on them so we will see.

I'm at about 45K on my FCPs and they are still as good as Day 1. They are also a flat-out awesome shock for towing use.

For anyone getting the 47-311190 kit, I’ve talked 4 wheel parts down to $760, while Toytec wants $900 or so out the door. I have found them cheaper online but they are so low I’m afraid
