Went to look at dinosaur foot prints when I nearly stepped on this guy. I jumped 4 feet back, but he was kind enough to pose for a picture.

I'm still sorting out the pictures and videos, so I'll load more down the line.

When we were in the Guadalupe mountain, a lady came over and introduced herself. She said she saw our truck in Yellowstone a few days ago. I said it couldn't be us, but she insisted it was a red land cruiser with a roof top tent. So if anyone is aware of Big Red's twin , I'm curious to know who it belongs to.

Awesome trip! I definitely want to go see White Sands someday.

Also, glad you brought the ladder so she could use the tailgate.

I highly recommend white sands, though they won't let you off road there. We had to stop at Walmart to buy a step stool so Aurora can make breakfast comfortably. It was a small price to pay :D.

I wound up taking my Harley through White Sands a few years back. It was a last minute trip that started in San Diego and wound up hitting Lubbock, DFW, parts of AL and FL. I remember being the only one on the highway for a while and the scenery was surreal. The loopyness from a lack of sleep and an overdose of Redbull may have altered my perception at that point, but it is still ingrained in my memories. Good times for sure.

are you still liking your airbag set up? how does it do wheeling? I have a 60 on 37's soa and its scary on the rd but wheels nice...

I love my current air bag set up. They act as a sway bar and level the height of the truck as well as the suspension stiffness. It also serves as a level to keep my roof top tent parallel to the ground so I'm not sleeping lop sided in there. I hated the original bags I put on there because they basically broke the first wheeling trip I went on and needed constant inflation.

As far as wheeling with this current set up, they are great. Just air them down to your comfort level and you're fine. The springs still flex all the way up/down. With you're SOA set up I'd get the bags I got, the ones with the 3 bubble looking things, if you get the two bubble looking things it might be a bit short. Just my 2 cents.

Cool trip!

It really was, I'm gonna try to do at least one big trip a year.

Here are a few more pics, still haven't sifted through the videos yet.

Awesome! That sounds like just what I'm looking for. I appreciate the response. Did you buy a particular brand or are they pretty much just all very similar?

I'm currently locked out of 4btswaps so I'm going to ask this question here. Is anyone aware of HX30 Holset turbo wheels made from titanium alloy?
I'm assuming mine is fully aluminum and therefore will begin to melt at 1221 or so degrees. Titanium melts at 3034, so if I can source one, I can get soo much more HP from the engine by sliding the fuel plate all the way forward. I currently have to throttle back and keep it just below 1200*; it would be much nicer to just floor it once in a while for long periods and not worry about the consequences.

Won't work. It's not the turbine wheel that melts first, it's the valve seats. Swapping out the turbine wheel won't allow you to run higher EGTs.

And just like that, that dream is dead :(.
Thanks for the quick response Johnny

I don't suppose there are titanium valve seats?

See, but then you're talking about protecting everything from that level of heat. Once the valve seats are safe the pistons will melt through. Once the pistons are safe either the rings will fail or the exhaust manifold will start to deform then melt.

Long story short, you can't mod the engine to take a lot more EGT and retain the longevity we need.

A second turbo would help. :smokin:

That would be awesome, though I'm not sure i have the space. What EGTs are you running and what boost levels are you seeing?

I understand your point, I was just kinda surprised that the aluminum turbo would go after the valve seats. I think If I can make it take 200 more degrees I can squeeze the rest of the untapped horses. The engine has more in it, IF I can mitigate that heat.

You can hit 1400* if it's for a short time. I've hit 1500* a few times, no issues. The issue is that you can't sustain those temps.

Bigger intercooler and bigger air filter would help your EGTs.

I've done 1200* for 3 hours no issues at highway speeds. I just can't find a clear answer anywhere on what's the highest safe sustainable temperature I can run at which won't cause any issues down the line.
