well first of all, thank you to the mud members who figured out how to do this setup. it took me about 3 1/2 hours buy my self with a six pack. the setup is a 91 fj80 with 95 fzj80 rotors and calipers, and 98 TRD brake pads. ( btw stock rotor sheild/air dam wont work with new rotors).

here's some pictures

Nice setup. Please report back on the performance of the slotted drilled rotors and their longevity. What brand did you go with?

Don't know the rotor brand he got but mine, R-1 lasted little over 2 years. I'll try the bigger brake setup next time .:frown:

Very nice, I am actually sourcing parts for this myself. I also picked up a FF rear so I can go to discs all around. With regards to the backing plates, did you just trim off the shield and reuse the center section of the backing plate?

I'm probably going to go with 100 series pads, but stock style rotors, where did those rotors come from? Lifetime warranty you say? I'm curious as to how you turn them, or are they harder than a standard rotor so they don't wear, just the pads...

Did they accept your FJ calipers as cores for the FZJ ones? I found some cheap FZJ calipers to trade in, just in case.

Looks good man.

i used R1 rotors as well, i just installed them this afternoon and started to brake them in. its them first time that i've been able to lock my wheels when braking under full pressure

sorry, basic question - but is the change in 'larger' disks line up with the change in FJ to FZJ (ie: 1993?) or is it a year within the FJZ line, like you mention 1995 below.

I'm weighing getting a trailer and digging into max'ing my breaking power where i can.

so if i have a 1993, if that comes with the 'larger rotors' already, will the swap to 100 series break pads make an improvement in breaking power, or just longer wear life?

and was your choice for slotted rotors aesthetic, or cooling? I've heard hot/cold regarding slotted on some rides.

i removed the heat shield because the rotor was to big, guess i'll leave it like that for a while. and all fzj models have same rotor sizes but you can fit 100 series pads if you take the noise cancel plate off.

on a side note the fj vs. fzj brake lines dont match btw (the end bits)!!

does this all work with the stock 15 inch rims on the 91-92s?

Hakalugi, if you have a Full Floating rear and the 16" dished type wheels then chances are you have the bigger brakes already.

Mhanssens, what brake lines did you use, stock replacements for the 95?

no you gotta have 16" rims

Won't work with the stock 15" rims but there are some that will depending on spacing.
There is also grinding down on the caliper a tad bit which others have done.

My 92 is ready for some pads and rotors so I might and we'll go big.

Where is the best place to source the rotors and calipers?

I'd say toyota remans for the calipers...... rotors are up to you.... do you want slotted??? drilled???

Yes...slotted and drilled.

I got my remans from NAPA. not too bad if you have cores to swap. I have heard that you can put your calipers in the box and take them back to get your cores. I had some FZJ calipers that I had planned to rebuild, but they were too far gone so I just took them in for the remans.

Check out Jonseysoffroad in the vendor section. (general misc section at the top) they have a december special on brake parts right now. For those slotted and drilled rotors. :D

So if you swap the 93 up rotors to the 91 and calipers and take off the backing plate and put in a backing plate eliminater it will work. pls lmk.

Out with the old, in with the new. From 92 OEM to 93, however I have another 92 with 92 OEM brakes that performs better.
