it has a nice pantina on it :) but I have seen worse sell for more

and YES I have seen folks(2 well know Cruiserheads) bid up buddies rigs on Ebay....

Could be we are only seeing the obvious "benefits" of owning that vehicle for the current bid.

Maybe there are some features that elude most of us, for example, rub one of the fenders and instead of getting rust dust on your hand, a genie appears! <grin>

you guys out west don't know how lucky you have it ............ that one is practically rust free for back east :grinpimp:

I am actually going to take a look at it in the morning and see how bad it really is.

does have some new or newish parts, carb clutch, alt, lens etc and it not as rusty as it looks at 1st glance........it will buff right out :D

Truer words were never spoken. Being up here in the frigid wastelands (Ohio), also known as the land of the salted snow, we have one inviolate rule:
your auto will eventually rust away to nothing...

So, the morale being, "location, location, location" - where have we heard that one before?

The last few years have been worse as too many municipalities have started adding calcium carbonate to their salt/sand/ash mixture to make their "salt dollar" go further. Nice for them when treating snow.

Not so nice for automobile owners as this particular salt+ mixture agressively attacks metal. Thick metal frame elements just take longer than things like body panels and brake lines...

This weekend my son and I will be finishing the replacement of the rear leaf-spring carriers on his '93 Bronco. NOT looking forward to it as we have to drop the gas tank to get to the frame/rivets holding the original spring carriers in place. Aggressive rust ate a hole through it and the crack in the metal is ever increasing...

you guys are kidding right? I expect that one to go for 6-8,000. its complete and driveable. and on the east coast. we don't have many over here. the cost of restoring an lv is so much higher than any other landcruiser. that aspect alone reflects into its purchase price. and the steel tends to be thicker and of a higher quality than later fj40's and fj55's so most of the rust you see is surface and either fixable or were it is not you don't have to cut out as much to get to solid ground.
after 2 years into a lv resto and knowing what I know now i would jump on it for that price fast, if it is driveable. so I could keep it on the road as much as possible while restoring it. In order to get a better feel for every 'upgrade' I would want to do (ps, brakes ect..)
If it gets up over 10,000 then I would say too rich for me but know that someone who knows the value of a rare lv restored was biddingon it. A restored or restofied fj55 fetches 10-15,000 max where as a the same for fj45lv will fetch 20-30,000 or more. makes the price of 4,050.00 with 10,000 of work to get it back to mint seem like a no brainer bargain.
just my 2cents on the matter.
Jason

I'm confused. I see two bids and a current price of 4,050. That is reasonable to me but I do have issues. I paid 1,800 for the convertible plus a thousand in shipping. The most I have paid for a 45lv is 4,000 and that was because I could drive it.

i agree that that is a perfectly expected price. especially since i've lived east of the mississippi. i wouldn't pay that much for it, but many would.

I am very pissed off at myself for selling the one I have for not much more than that one. I am a jackass

there's absolutely nothing wrong with the price that rig went for. how many LVs do you think are out there? and how many of them run? now narrow that down to the ones on the east coast and you end up with a simple conclusion:
somebody bought a pretty decent LV for a decent price. :)

ebay bumps happen all the time.......
