Hi,

There is so much information here that I'm confused on tire size.

I just want to get the BFG AT on my 2004 LC with 18" wheels. Wondering what size you'd recommend and post a pic of what it looks like on your LC! I don't need to go crazy big but want it to perform and look solid with no lift.

Thanks,
dave

I don't have a pic, but the closest to stock is the 285s I believe. My 03 has 275s as stock (the dunlops).

Welcome to Mud, Dave! :flipoff2:

I lived down in CR the first couple of years that I was Colorado, great area.

As for tire size, you basically need to decide between a 33" or 35" tire. What you choose will depend on your intended use for the truck. Going with 35s is much easier with an 18" wheel size since you don't have to go with an insanely wide tire like those of us with 16s do (you can stay in the 285 range with an 18" wheel, vs having to go with a 315 on a 16" wheel which can cause a lot of clearance issues).

Do a search if you want tons of info - there are a bunch of 33 vs 35 tire threads. Bottom line is that if you don't plan to run any lift, then a 33" tire will suit you just fine...but be careful, because once the mod bug bites you, there's no going back. ;)

33"-- done.

For you, that most likely means 285/65R18 or 275/70R18. Also, if you don't understand tire sizes. It would be a good idea to read up on it. We often refer to tires as 285, 315 or etc but this adds to the confusion because a 285 can be 30" to 35" tall and they can all fit the 100.

The main reason I switched the 18" wheels on my 2004 LC for 16" wheels was the lack of 18" tire options. The tire companies just don't have the same options in 18" as they do in 16". It's basically either under 33" or straight to 35" with nothing in the middle.

If you absolutely want to stay with 18" and BFG AT's then go with 285/65R18. It's just under a 33" tire, will fit perfect with no rubbing, and look good. BFG, Nitto, and Toyo all make this size in AT style. All are great options.

Dont forget the same tire in an 18" vs a 16" can be almost $100 more per tire. This is the realization I came to recently when thinking hard about switching to 18" wheels. I really want to switch to 18's.... but the cost increase just isnt worth it for me.

Nitto Terra G's in a 295/70 are a nice 34" size.

Oh I'm fully aware. With the next set of tires I'm going to switch back to my stock 18's and go with a 35" tire (35x11.50).

The price makes you swallow hard, $360-400 per tire.

I am running 2004 LX wheels (18") on my 2000 LX470 that came with 16" wheels....my tire is a 33" (285x65x18) and ran fine without a lift and would only rub offroad in full lock turns downhill or starting uphill a little bit...and that is with aggressive mud terrains..doubt an AT would rub at all. Early pics in my build thread show the tires with no lift...just stock AHC in neutral setting.

Here ya go:
Stock 2006 - no lift, well... TB cranked .55"; 275/70/18 BFG ATs

No lift.....285/65-18 wrapped with Nitto Trail Grapplers (E Rated)....first two mods last year were sliders and tires. Everything else was stock....

Never an issue with airing down to 20lbs of pressure on trails.....none of the horror stories told....just good tires and nice looking wheels.

Get what you like and within reason and you will be fine...you can run a 295 70 or 285 60 no problem I think.

Dave, when you say "perform", are you talking off road? If so, consider the 16" wheels to get decent sidewall height for airing down. I realized you have to go to 34-35" tires to get a 75 aspect ratio sidewall in the 18's. $$$$

Typos sent from my HTC EVO using the IH8MUD app...

17" x 35" BFG's on a maxed out lift

Full OME shocks, maxed out Tortion Bars and new rear springs with coil packs, and the 35"s are still to big, they still, rub, they have pulled off fenders, fender linings, pushed out indicators....

35"s are not worth it... untill your standing outside your rig with a camera :grinpimp:
